Public Service announcement, maybe? and a UFO finished

I've noticed a number of people are having issues with their comments showing up as being 'Anonymous' and I thought I'd share what I've discovered that seems to be working (mostly!).  When you click on the area to leave a comment, look just above it and you should (hopefully!) see an option entitled 'Comment As' that includes at least three options.  In my case it gives me an option to click to leave a comment as 'Magpie's Mumblings (Google)', plus there's an 'Anonymous' choice as well as a choice entitled 'Name/URL'.  If you have a blog just click on that and your comment will show up as that name.   You can also, if you would rather, or if you don't have a blog, click on the 'Name/URL' and follow the prompts to leave a comment under your own name.  Hope that helps someone!  I find that I have to keep re-doing this step on some blogs, sometimes for each time I leave a comment and other times it seems to 'last' a few days before reverting to me showing as being anonymous.

I've tried to take a picture of the area in question in hopes that it can help...

########################

As for the UFO part of this post, some of you might remember me making advent calendars for our grandies last Christmas.  I thought ahead and made one for our then-unborn wee little girl but the ornaments were left incomplete until now.  Each of these had a row of whipped blanket stitch added to the outside edges.

If you want to be reminded of what they looked like, have a peek at THIS post.

Today the quote is from Hans Christian Anderson..."The whole world is a series of miracles, but we're so used to seeing them that we call them ordinary things"

  1. Those advent calendars are family treasures!
Comments, Sometimes mine don't show up. Maybe they get mixed up in spam folder.

    1. Seems a little silly I suppose to have three virtually identical advent calendars in one family, but I want the grandies each to have one to pass on to their kids evenutally. The tree ornaments are all different though, although there are 3 of each 'subject' (ie. 3 different Rudolphs)
As for comments, sometimes I don't get time to approve them in a timely manner so be sure to keep checking back.

  2. thanks for the linky tip on metallic floss--I just ran across that problem this morning--serendipity, right;)))

    1. Obviously meant to be that I link to metallic floss hints. The best thing I've found is to run the floss through 'Thread Heaven' prior to using it. Works wonders!
      Stay cool!!

  3. About comments; I'm leaving them as usual snd several blogs don't show them after I go back. After they've published! And others may be going into spam files, because there's no aknowledgement from people who usually do. I'm trying not to take it personally!!

    1. I don't know what's going on, but what I've done (above) is what seems to be working for me for the most part. I just have to remind my brain that I need to check the 'Comment As' category to be sure I'm not commenting as Anonymous. So far, so good.

  4. I have tried to explain this to many people over the years, and some insist it doesn't work for them. Makes me wonder if they don't understand where to look, or if there is something that prevents them from doing this. I've assumed the later. May I cut and paste your explanation (and give you credit) should the topic come up from another of my commenters? Maybe you've explained it better than me.

    1. Of course you may! I don't know if I've explained it very well, but I tried. I wish I knew how to do something called a 'screenshot' (or at least I wish I knew how to make it actually work!!!) because then I could show a picture of the area in question.

    4. Ok... I've saved this post among my many resources on my blog. We'll see if I can remember I have it should this question come up again from one of my readers. I'll just give them a link back here. Thanks, Mary Anne!

  5. Advent calendars are the loveliest of gifts. Especially those made with love.

    God bless.

    1. It's something that I hope will get passed down to the next generation.

  6. I love the idea of the advent calendars for each of the grandkids. It will be such a special memory for them to look back on knowing all the love that went into the creation of them. Loving the links today too. Especially thinking about the buttons. Summers almost always included sorting through my grandmother's button boxes on too hot to be outside or rainy days. I really wanted those boxes of her buttons when she passed but my father put them somewhere and they still haven't been found. I've more than made up for it with the ones that I've collected from garage and rummage sales. It's an addiction. And thank you for the commenting info. I'll pass it along.

    1. At least these advent calendars don't involve candy or the parents having to buy 24 little toys to put into pockets. Buttons are a thing for me too and I've even managed to get rid of a ton of them and I STILL have more than any one woman could ever hope to use in ten lifetimes. Of course, when I sorted through the other day looking for buttons for a sweater I knitted...could I find any? Why no...............

  7. I enlarged your photo to take a look at all those beautiful stitched pieces. So wonderful and what a keepsake this will be!

    1. I hope they will become a keepsake. Seems a tad overboard I suppose to have three of them in one family, but I want each of the grandies to have their own to hopefully use with their own kids one day. Such is the plan, but who knows what might happen.

  8. You amaze me how far ahead you get your Christmas things finished. Smart. Just after I made my last goofed up comment on your blog the other day, I did notice the "comment as" button. As I write this one, my blog is already chosen for me? Something new that google is working on I guess and default must have been set for anonymous for some of us.

    1. Far ahead? I'm actually way behind this year. Normally I start planning in January and am well into making things by February, but not so this year for some reason.
As for the 'comment as' button and your blog being already chosen - keep an eye on it, because if it's like I've been experiencing it works correctly for a little while and then reverts to anonymous and I have to keep changing it.

Thank you so much for leaving comments! I appreciate you taking the time out of your busy life to talk to me. It's wonderful to know that someone is actually reading my mumblings and even more fun if I can connect with you and visit your blog.
