aaaaa-chooooo!!

Yes, working with two different kinds of pepper will make you sneeze...guaranteed!  Yesterday I muddled together the ingredients to make no-salt seasoning which will be part of the Christmas boxes this year.  If you're interested in the recipe I used, here it is...

No-Salt Seasoning
1 tablespoon garlic powder
2 1/2 tsp. thyme
2 1/2 tsp. onion powder
2 1/2 tsp. paprika
2 1/4 tsp. celery seed
2 1/2 tsp. white pepper
1 tablespoon dry mustard
2 1/4 tsp. dried fine chopped lemon peel
1 tablespoon black pepper

Combine and jar (don't sneeze in it!)
I multiplied the recipe 10x so I had enough
for several gifts.

- If I hadn't already made the button tree last year, I would want to try making one of THESE.  (if you want to see the button tree, you can see it in THIS post).

- THIS is a really pretty scarf pattern that looks easy to create (scroll down for the free pattern)

- There are some really pretty snowflake patterns HERE, most of which are free.

- THIS might be something you'd like to create for gift giving.

Today's quote..."If I knit fast enough does it count as aerobics?"

Thank you for the delicious eye candy and wonderful recipes. Now I really need to learn how to crochet. Inexperienced knitter and quilter here. Having only recently n found your site, coming via canadianneedlenana, I am in awe of your landscapes. I will be back often. I appreciate your sharing with us. The button tree you made looks like something I will try with my grandson.

    1. Happy November to you as well! I know a lot of people want to reduce salt in their diet so that recipe caught my eye.

    1. That scarf interested me too, although I don't have any yarn left in my stash that's suitable. Gee whiz, I might just have to order some!!

Sherry of createology: Congratulations Mary Anne on being selected for one of Donna’s Wee Froggies. I am truly happy for you. No salt seasoning is a wonderful gift for anytime…especially hostess gifts this time of year. I like the crocheted scarf. Yes, you are definitely doing aerobics with all your swift knitting projects!

  5. Thanks for the no-salt seasoning recipe; sounds perfect. As fast as you knit, I am sure it qualifies as aerobics.

    1. I'm really not such a fast knitter, I just spend hours at it (at least right now).

  6. That looks like a good recipe. Do you dry your own lemon peel? I need to look for my styrofoam cone and get one of those button trees made - thanks for the reminder.

    1. No, I bought the lemon peel at the bulk food store - too much like work to do it ourselves! If you do make a button tree - you'll need lots of pins!

  7. Do you recommend the spice mix for particular dishes? I'm trying to get more adventurous in my cooking, but usually experimenting with just one seasoning at a time. When I buy a mix it usually sits on my shelf because I don't know what to do with it and am really afraid of ruining one of my big kettles-o-food. Which I've done twice now. The hens were thrilled, so that's the upside I guess.

    1. I would use it in place of salt (or in addition to it if you use salt). No reason why it wouldn't be good on pretty much anything. It's try it first in a small pot of something before you use a lot of it. Perhaps, if there's something you sprinkle salt onto (eggs come to mind for me...or boiled potatoes) try it there to see if you like the flavour combination.

  8. Hmmm, that seasoning looks very good. I might have to give it a try as we are trying to cut down on Harvey's salt intake. Mrs. Dash No Salt is pretty costly.

    God bless.
