Well, the battle was resolved and this little (heavy!) beauty is now sitting on my sewing room table waiting for me to figure out how to use her. It's our Christmas present to each other (hah!) but I get to play with her beforehand. She came with all sorts of 'foots' that I haven't a clue how to use, plus she has a much bigger table than the Brother does. I don't know exactly how much she weighs but she certainly is far 'chubbier' than the Brother. See how pretty she is?....
Janome 5300QDCNow, folks, how about you help me with some suggestions for her name. She needs a name!!
- And if you want a few minutes of pure joy, go HERE and watch the video (thanks Maywyn for this one!)
- Some of you might like to try THIS technique.
- Yet more proof that my mind works in mysterious ways and you just never know what I might find interesting...HERE.
Today your quote is from David Suzuki..."We have become the impatient species, too busy to let nature replenish itself and too puffed up with our own sense of important to acknowledge our utter dependence on its generosity"
Tension rods and s hooks have been my go-to ever since being a renter, long ago. Easily removable when you need to. Or just change your mind.
ReplyDeleteYour comment came through this time! We often use tension rods too and actually have one over the top of our tub where we hang our laundry (on hangers) to dry. I refuse to pay over $4 per dryer load to use the machines in our building when things dry perfectly well using our system.
DeleteCongratulations on your new sewing machine, I hope it brings you lots of joy. It was very sweet of your supportive husband to encourage the purchase of your joint Christmas gift. Name suggestions: Janie (for Janome), Christine or Chrissy ( for Christmas), Natalie (for Nativity) or Santini (for Santa). Just a few silly suggestions for names. Enjoy practicing with all of the new bells and whistles. You already do beautiful work and hopefully your new baby will make it easier.
ReplyDeleteIt brings me joy just looking at it. Joy, but a huge amount of intimidation too. So many things to learn!! Thanks for the name suggestions.
DeleteMerry Christmas! I think you should call her Joy. It's a nod to Christmas and she will bring you joy every time you sew.
ReplyDeleteI'm happy that RC isn't making me wait until Christmas to play with her. The suspense would kill me! Mind you, I'm feeling overwhelmed with all the bells and whistles she has. Thanks for the name suggestion!
DeleteCopngratulations! She's a beauty.
ReplyDeleteMaybe Resident Chef has a name for her.
If not, then I like the name Harvard, smart and classy like the machine is.
The tension rod link is genius.
I watch the Stell videos for a laugh. They make me smile.
I should ask RC to suggest a name - maybe he will have a good one. I played with her a bit today until my brain started to go into overdrive. I can only absorb so much 'new' at one time!
DeleteCongratulations on the new machine! Lovely that you get to get acquainted right away. Since she's a gift I looked at names that meant gift: Dora, Dot, Dottie, Dody, Edith, Jessie, Nala, Tedora...... to name a few (there are many more). Good luck choosing and have fun!
ReplyDeleteSo many great name choices! I might end up putting them all in a 'hat' and ask RC to draw for it.
DeleteGreat to see your new machine - mine is a Janome, too . I agree with your other commenter (Anonymous) - my first thought was Janey, okay spelling a little different, but same name; also Naomi was my other suggestion. Two of my nieces have a Labrador, so I sent them your lovely clip - anyone who enjoys having a dog will love that. Really. Such fun.
ReplyDeleteThe little bit of quilting of a placemat is great too. Funny, isn't it, how these folk make it look so easy ...
Tension rods - great ideas too. When we moved into our house many years ago, we used them as wardrobe hangers too as strangely none were provided, they were just cupboards.
Thank you again, MA, for the links, always look forward to seeing what you have found!
Val (UK)
Thanks Val! I'm happy to have another Janome and I'm sure she'll become my best friend before long. So many features I've never had before to learn about.
DeleteGlad you enjoy all the links!
Now that my comments are landing again, I was asking in the one that vanished, what will happen to your old machine when you're under way with the new one?
ReplyDeleteI'm keeping it as a back up and to use for 'dirty' jobs that might damage my new machine (not that I expect to have many of those). At some point I might sell it.
DeleteCongratulations on your new baby!! What fun to figure it all out!! I named my Viking "Helga" -- I don't know what country janome is from--that may give you a hint as to naming..hugs, Julierose
ReplyDeleteYes, I'm having fun and still have only touched the surface of what it will do. It even comes with three different magnifier attachments which makes seeing to thread it SO much easier.
DeleteLove your new machine. In all the years I have sewn and used different machines I don't think I have ever named any other than one I lovingly called "The Beast". Have fun thinking up a name and learning everything your new machine can do.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
I've never named one either but I think this one is deserving of it. Well, actually that's not quite true, because I called the Bernina 'Boat Anchor' because that's all it was good for.
DeleteWhat a great present! Wow! I know you will have fun with this sweet girl! I have never named one of my machines, not that there have been that many. It was first “The Singer,” then “The Bernina.” And, occasionally “The Old White.”
ReplyDeleteI have named mine similarly to you but have to say that my Bernina had the well-deserved title of 'The Boat Anchor' (amongst other non-flattering terms that don't bear repeating in polite company).
DeleteCongratulations on the new machine! She looks very beautiful! Not much good on naming things! Sorry! Hugs Christine xx
ReplyDeleteShe certainly does look purrty doesn't she!
DeleteSherry of createology: I name everything. I see your new fabulous machine and the story behind it and the name Holly (for your Christmas gift) comes to my mind. I can almost see your glow of happiness dear. Resident Chef is very wonderful. Happy sewing!
ReplyDeleteYes, my Resident Chef is definitely a keeper (better be, after 44 years!). Thank you for the name suggestion!
DeleteCongratulations on your new family member. Since she's a QDC you can call her Cutie (QD). I do feel honored that someone wanted to call her Joy. Don't worry about using all the footsies. I use a lot of mine. Learned a lot by watching You Tubes on them. The Janome site can help too.
ReplyDeleteCute (ha ha) name suggestion! I have decided that there will be lots of video watching over the next while so I can learn how to use the parts that came with her.
DeleteShe is a beauty! I look forward to seeing all the new creations you make with her.
ReplyDeleteI'm certainly looking forward to playing with her - so many new things to learn!
DeleteCongratulations on your new machine! I look forward to your new adventures :)
ReplyDeleteMe too! Have to finish the Christmas knitting before I can play though.
DeleteWoohoo! How exciting - nothing like a new machine to get one all fired up and enthusiastic. Fun times ahead...
ReplyDeleteAlas the knitting needles and crochet hooks need to take top place on my attention span at the moment. But soon....soon....
