Unveiling

Late last fall I submitted an article to the 'Our Canada' magazine and to my surprise they wanted to publish it along with some photos of my work.  I'm happy to say that it's in the current Feb/March issue of the magazine which should be on the newstands shortly.  On the one hand I'm really happy that they wanted my article, but on the other hand it's tempered with a great deal of sadness because 'Our Canada' and its parent publication (Reader's Digest - Canadian edition) are both ceasing publication in the spring.  So much for Canadian content!  'Our Canada' is totally written by Canadians and is filled with amazing Canadian photos - all from submissions from people like me.  It's distressing to see such things being discontinued.

At any rate, I know many of you can't lay your hands on a copy of the actual issue so I thought I'd show you my part of it here....

  1. Congratulations on the published work! Too bad they can't keep going. I imagine costs have soared and revenue hasn't. Print publications are disappearing. But you made your mark here.

    1. Yes, it seems print publications are on their way out, which is very sad to see. My chief concern is the death of Canadian content. Many magazines have strictly gone digital but it seems these two aren't planning to do that. It's been sort of a thrilled/mourning type of thing for me.

And yes, I was thinking of the political scene in America when I published that quote.

  5. My Dad would get us subscriptions to Our Canada every year. I think he might just roll over in his grave knowing they and Reader's Digest (Canadian version) are shutting their doors. Congratulations on being published.

    God bless.

    1. I know how your Dad would have felt, for sure. It's hard to be overly thrilled with being published when I know that it's the second last issue.

  6. What an accomplishment to be published in your national magazine. I do recognize those pieces of work. If this happens to be the last publication, you get the unique honor of saying you got printed in the last historical publication. Congratulations.

    1. Thank you! It's certainly an honour. There will be one more issue after this one so I'm not quite last.

Sherry of createology: Congratulations Mary Anne. It is such a pity when periodicals feel the need to close shop. Our world is spinning based on internet media. Your black and white landscape of the “Wheel” turned out fantastic. You are so very creative and talented. I am very grateful to share your friendship. Blessings Dear…

    1. The internet is good in so many ways but it has certainly spelled the demise of many good things, periodicals included.

  9. Congratulations on being published.
So sorry to hear about the magazine stopping, it saddens me because people are getting reading content on the net instead of a paper copy of books or magazine and papers.
    Thank-you for the sweet links.

  10. Oh wow, that is so cool! Maybe you can find some online publications for other opportunities. It's sad to see print publications go out of business but I admit that I don't really subscribe to any.

    1. We've subscribed to both Our Canada and Reader's Digest for many years so their ceasing publication will leave a real void. I hadn't heard they were stopping until after my submission had been accepted so I feel doubly blessed that I got in.

  12. Huge congrats on this wonderful achievement...so deserving, Mary Anne. But how sad re the magazine giving up...it seems everything will be online. We get the Ottawa Citizen and it is getting slimmer each edition and down to 5 a week from the normal 7. Tony is addicted to his morning read and isn't quite ready for online yet.
    Thanks for those links.

    1. Thank you Jocelyn. Sadly both the magazines are ceasing entirely with no word on there being any sort of online version. We no longer have a local newspaper either which is really sad for many people. I have the ability to get some news online but a lot of our senior population don't have that option.
