Fun, with a little bit of stress thrown in

This isn't my usual blog post because there will be less links (and no photos) for you than usual because I haven't been on the computer over the weekend.  Our #2 son has been here for a very fast visit which turned out to be a day longer than expected (we aren't complaining!).  He was on his way from Vancouver to Halifax for a work 'thing' and arranged a layover here from late Friday night until early Sunday morning.  Unfortunately for the work 'thing' the massive snow storm hit the east coast and all the flights in were cancelled yesterday.  As of 7 am this morning the drive service picked him up and he's on his way to Toronto for a flight to Montreal and then another layover and *hopefully* another flight later today in to Halifax.  The weather there still doesn't sound good but not as bad as yesterday and so far at least there's no word about that flight being cancelled.  Fingers crossed because being stranded in Montreal isn't a good thing.  I feel sorry for him travelling all by himself and having to deal with all the stresses.

We had a wonderful visit and we're all hopeful he'll be able to do it again if there's another work event held in this end of the country.  It's the first time he's been home in over twelve years so it was a treat for him I think.  Not that we spoiled him or anything of the sort!

Regular mumblings should return on Wednesday!

- THIS would be a great scrap-busting project - and useful too.

- I need to make one of THESE for reference with my new sewing machine.

- THIS is a really pretty pattern for a baby blanket or perhaps embiggen it and use different colours for older folks.  While you're there, have a peek through some of the other free designs she has available.

  1. What a wonderful visit. Were you living in the house last time he came?

    1. We were living here in the apartment - he and our daughter-in-love were only married a year and moved out to BC (which we actually figured out was 12 years ago). They came to Ontario once to attend a wedding but had to fly right back so we didn't get to see them.

Sherry of createology: Such a blessing to have your son be able to visit with you. Winter is a very difficult time to travel. May he be safe and reach his work destination of Halifax and then back home to his family. I am guilty of not using my sewing machine’s stitching capabilities. A stitch book for reference is very smart. Too bad theshe expensive machines don’t come with one. Grey cold rainy days here all this week. We are grateful for the rain.

  3. Yes, we feel very blessed to have him here and certainly are uttering a lot of prayers that he reaches Halifax safely and then home again mid-week.

    1. Stress level has been high today while he tries to make his way to Halifax safely, but the visit itself was wonderful. Travel in Canada in the winter is certainly a challenge.

  5. I am so happy you had a great visit, we do not have children but love hearing when parents get to have a visit their children.
The sewing link is my favorite.

    1. We just saw him (and his family) in September when we flew out to BC but this visit was a bonus we weren't expecting. Luckily we get to video chat with them on a fairly regular basis too.

  7. Yes it was certainly nice to have him home. We've been out to visit him and his family several times but this is the first time he's been able to come this way since they moved out there. The weather report sounds good for Wednesday when he will be heading home so fingers crossed it stays that way.

  9. So nice that you got a visit with your son. Hopefully there were no more delays. Saw pictures of the snow the area got. and can only shake my head.

    God bless.

  10. I have friends out East and yes it looks like the mother of all snow storms out there. I hope your son gets to where he needs to be safely.

    1. It was certainly record-breaking by all reports. Our son got there but it wasn't without a whole lot of stress (further report on my blog tomorrow).

    1. For sure! We were so happy that he could stop here even for a little while. We've flown out to visit them but he rarely gets this direction.

  12. I can imagine you want to soak up every minute of those visits. Our son is moving at the end of this month and all these "lasts" we're doing with him and our grandson are so bittersweet. Hope the rest of your son's trip went well.

    1. Yes I still remember the tears I shed when our son and daughter-in-love moved out west. It was so hard to see them go and I feel for you. It's hard to believe they've been gone for more than 12 years. I am so thankful for video chats.
