The subject came up about whether or not Resident Chef has an aritistic eye and that resulted in me sharing something he used to do. He carved birds for several years but had to give it up when he started having breathing problems from the wood dust. I can't remember how many loons he did (by far the most popular) but he also carved many other species. He carved and then I painted them. Here's just one example...
Work is continuing on the landscape but it's not at a point where I can really show you what's happening. I will just have to keep you in suspense!
- I love the creations of THIS artist.
- THIS is a really nice hat pattern that looks fairly easy to create.
- HERE is something to play with - the finished puzzle is fun!
Today's quote is from C.S. Lewis..."One of the most cowardly things ordinary people do is to shut their eyes to facts"
Oh your DH is certainly an artist in wood carving--no doubt about that!! Just a beautiful loon--don't you love to hear them
ReplyDeletein the evening as the sun sets... When we traveled up to Lake George NY a few years back, we were near the Lake and heard them in the evenings--such an evocative sound...thanks for sharing his beautiful work hugs, Julierose
Loons were by far his most popular carving and he lost track of how many he ended up making, to the degree that he flatly refused to do any more. We often bartered one of his birds for something we needed.
DeleteToo bad your bird carver had to stop. They're really good.
ReplyDeleteYes, he was good but sometimes you have to realize your limitations. Apartment life now would mean he would have to give up anyway because there's certainly no room for big machines (to say nothing about the mess!)
DeleteSherry of createology: I never knew that Resident Chef carved wooden birds and that you painted them. This Loon is gorgeous! I adore the whimsical cats. Interesting quote dear.
ReplyDeleteDon't know if you noticed the wee baby on mama's back? He did an amazing job with birds - too bad he couldn't continue with it.
DeleteBeautiful Loon!
ReplyDeleteNice jigsaw. Can only do one because an ad overs part of the puzzle pieces
Funny - I don't have an ad showing up on my screen and I've done the puzzle. Odd!
DeleteWow, a very artistic family. I love the loon.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Yes, we both have had fun creating things over the years. Now his creativity is limited to cooking.
DeleteWe're listening to the loons on the pond here! You and Chef did a beautiful job on your sculptures!
ReplyDeleteWonderful to hear them...wish there would be one or two take up residence on our river but they seem to prefer lakes.
DeleteThat's beautiful Mary Anne. Shame he had to stop but health comes first! Hugs Christine xx
ReplyDeleteYes, lungs were more important than carving, for sure.
Deletehe loons are my favorite I have a hand carved loon in my dining room I have loved them since I was a kid listening to them at summer camp
ReplyDeleteCathy
I love them too but alas I rarely get to hear them here. There's a family or two of them not too far away and I keep hoping they might like to visit our river but so far they haven't.
DeleteThe loon is stunning! What a wonderful collaboration!
ReplyDeleteWe collaborated on a lot of loons in his carving days, for sure. Lots of other birds too, but loons were the most popular.
DeleteA very talented team couple
ReplyDeleteThank you. I know he misses carving but it was becoming detrimental to his health. Now he's turned his talents towards cooking (much to my delight!)
DeleteOh wow, you two were quite the crafty couple, that looks great!
ReplyDeleteYes, he did a really great job of carving birds. Rather wish we had one of his owls but he sold them all.
