There's been some progress on the latest landscape as you can hopefully see from the picture...
Can't tell you how many hours went into cutting out all those itty bitty individual birch leaves! And then how many more hours went into placing each one with tweezers. Sometimes I think I'm nuts!!

Today's quote is by Zig Ziglar..."The Three C's of Life: Choices, Chances, Changes. You must make the choice, to take a chance, if you want anything in life to change"
A lot of hours' work on those leaves--but the lovely result is certainly worth it!! Nice work on this--we are still getting smokey skies here and it looks like they won't clear up anytime soon...There are an awful lot of Canadian fires up there!

Yes, the results are worth it, but it is time-consuming. Very smokey here as well - lots of air quality advisories in place so our windows are shut tight and we're not going out unless we need to.
DeleteStay home and continue with this terrific artwork! Sounds like a plan.
ReplyDeleteI'm always happy to stay home!
DeleteEven though you spent many hours on the tedious birch tree---love the trunk too---- my eye was caught by the tree on the left that looked like it was wrestling a strong wind?
ReplyDeleteI was so inspired by the Carol Webster site that I saved the link in my "Card Making" folder. I tried Junk/Art journal but they just didn't have enough purpose in my world. Have to have a reason besides just going back and me looking at it again. Cards convey a note for me. So I find myself using ideas like Carol's to make the cards. Keep up your art work as well. You choose and make scenes that spark memories.
You're right - sometimes pine trees grow like that if there is a prevailing wind.
DeleteGlad you found something interesting in the links.
Yikes! Those leaves are so tiny! Bravo!
ReplyDeleteYep, most of them measure about 1/4" in size.
DeleteOh my, I can just imagine how many hours you spent on that birch tree.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Actually it was the better part of three days (but who's counting!)
DeleteTime consuming but VERY effective!
ReplyDeleteYes, it seemed to be the thing to do to get the effect I wanted.
DeleteSherry of createology: Oh My! All those tiny little leaves really do make the difference in texture and realism. Good Quote today.
ReplyDeleteIt definitely needed the leaves to look 'right'.
DeleteNever underestimate the value of a good tweezer in artwork I say. Well, I don't say it out loud, but I often think it when I'm working with them. I can see how they would be helpful with those leaves.
ReplyDeleteGood tweezers - and don't sneeze!!
DeleteWow, this exciting commission is coming on apace! Lovely effect with the birch leaves - they are so delicate in real life, I can see why they will require loads of time and care to create. And I can't not mention: that pine tree looks very like one of Tom Thomson's paintings of lakeshore pines, which look, in fact, very like actual lakeshore pines. All in all, I'm really loving this one :)
ReplyDeleteTom Thomson (and the Group of Seven) were inspirations for the pine tree, for sure. I was asked to include a windswept pine, birch trees, water and a canoe. Ready to start quilting it now and then it will be on to adding the embroidery.
