Sometimes things happen that mystify me. I'm sure you will be greatly saddened to learn that I'm dead. Yep - deader than a doornail. At least according to the local funeral home I am. Every once in awhile I google my own name just for the fun of it. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that I'd died and that my obit was on the funeral home web site.
Hmmmm - maybe I should lie down?
I emailed the funeral home and, rather tongue-in-cheek, told them that I was very much alive, despite their evidence to the contrary. It wasn't 5 minutes and the phone rang. It was the director calling to apologize. I did feel sorry for the poor man because of course I started laughing hysterically and finally he just gave up and laughed too. He promptly removed the notice so I guess he'll just have to wait awhile longer to get his clutches on my cold dead body.

This week I will try to show you just a few of the quilts that caught my eye at the show. These are only a portion of what was on display.
(I think this one won best in show)
- Have a peek through the gallery of THIS artist.
- There's a reveal of a QAL HERE. It's really different and quite attractive so some of you might be interested in it.
- HERE is another artist that does some pretty incredible work!
- THIS post shows some amazing paper art creations with links to learn more about each.
Your quote for the day..."You can't save someone who is not willing to particpate in their own rescue"
WOW--that must have surprised you!! ;000 Better to be looking down on the grass rather than looking up any day!!
ReplyDeleteHugs, Julierose
For sure! Resident Chef wondered what on earth was the matter with me because I laughed so hard. Felt rather sorry for the funeral director who called me within 5 minutes of me emailing them to tell them I was very much alive. He tried his best to be properly solemn and apologetic and finally ended up joining me and laughing just as hard.
DeleteHave you found out how it happened? Usually they don't print without establishing the bona fides of the person inserting the notice. I'd report this, because it could have been a serious issue. Make sure it hasn't affected any of your credentials, too, bank accounts etc can be frozen if they see a death notice. I'm taking this seriously. If it's a prank, it's a dangerous one.
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't a complete death notice/obit - just my name, so no dates or anything pertinent. I suspect it might be because we have an insurance policy whereby we pay $/month to cover the costs of our funerals and that it was some sort of computer glitch. They're looking into it anyway.
DeleteNot a happy moment, I wonder who set the situation in motion.
ReplyDeleteGlad you are alive.
I also google my name now and then. It is disturbing that information that is not public information, ends up online. None of the websites I contacted removed my name.
It does pay to google yourself every once in awhile because you just never know what you might learn. I think the poor funeral director expected I would be upset but it simply struck me as being hilarious.
DeleteOh no, is there another you out there?! That must have been a bit of a surprise though!
ReplyDeleteThose are beautiful quilts too.
There are lots of people with the same name as I have, but none with the same maiden name and that was included so it must be me!
DeleteOMG, that's the funniest thing I've hears in weeks! How in the world did that happen? is there a death certificate floating around somewhere?
ReplyDeleteI'd really like to know what date I'm supposedly waking up dead because I truly want to celebrate cheating death! All they had was my married name and maiden name but no further details. Perhaps that's a good thing?!
DeleteWell crud!!! ha ha...wonder if I can get my flowers back?? That is the funniest thing I have ever heard!!!!
ReplyDeleteNope, I'm keepin' the flowers!!
DeleteGlad to hear you're alive and kicking! (Beautiful quilts!)
ReplyDeleteI'm rather relieved that I'm still on the right side of the sod too! At least it's been worth a laugh anyway.
DeleteWhat gorgeous quilts. Way above my ability and such artistic talent.
ReplyDeleteGlad you got your death straightened out. The funeral director here was one of my youth group kids, and his wife is someone I worked with in the schools.... Hopefully he checks before he posts my obit.
God bless.
Thanks Jackie. I have fun playing with fabrics, for sure.
DeleteI must admit I'm mighty curious to know why the funeral home screwed up...don't suppose I'll ever know.
I am so happy you are still alive; I would miss your posting on Blogland. The quilts are amazing and beautiful.
ReplyDeleteCatherine
Must say I'm happy to be alive too!
DeleteSherry of createology: How ironic you check on your daily life and find out your are not alive! Thank goodness you are very much alive and well. Whew! Crisis averted! So many talented artists in our small world. Very true quote today.
ReplyDeleteIt's been good for an ongoing laugh Sherry and no doubt will for a long time to come.
DeleteOh dear! What a kerfuffle! So glad you're able to laugh about it. Thanks for posting these beauties. I'm kind of coveting that swan. Been looking for a comforter with swans (that aren't pink) for a while now and it never occurred to me to look for a pattern.
ReplyDeleteThe swan caught my eye, for sure. It's much brighter in real life than my picture shows.
DeleteI too, am very glad you are very much alive, dear Mary Anne! It is always a delight to wander around a quilt show and appreciate beautiful quilts. I'm rather in love with the gorgeous swan.
ReplyDeleteI must admit that I'm rather glad as well!
DeleteThe quilt show is the first one they've held since covid hit so it was extra fun to see the beautiful creations.
Oh wow beautiful quilts.
ReplyDeleteDid the guy give a clue why you ended up with an obit? Weird.
There were a lot of beautiful quilts, for sure. Wish I could have gotten photos of them all!
DeleteAs for the obit - he had absolutely no clue, at least not then. Perhaps he's figured it out by now, but don't suppose I'll ever hear.
I'm glad you saw it before any of your friends did! Wow.
ReplyDeleteYes, I imagine it would have given them a start. I told them I was expecting flowers but so far, nada.
DeleteLOL! The comments here are pretty good too. I think the funeral home should have at least sent you some flowers for that mistake. lol The quilts are just gorgeous. It's amazing to me how creative people are with fabric and thread.
ReplyDeleteHah - the funeral home sending ME flowers? Not likely...it would cost money!
DeleteOh my goodness - how surreal that must have been. You certainly dealt with it in a gracious and kindly way - what a good laugh you had!
ReplyDeleteYes, I have a very warped sense of humor which sometimes comes in handy.
