From the Resident Chef

I've been busy working on more cross stitched bookmarks (shhhh....I DO remember assuring you that there wouldn't be any more cross stitch for awhile....so I lied).  They're not photo ready as yet though.

Because I have nada to show you, how about a really good potato soup recipe from Resident Chef's kitchen instead...

SLOW COOKER HAM and POTATO SOUP
8 c. potatoes, diced
2 onions, diced
3 large carrots, diced
1/2 c. chopped celery
16 oz. cubed cooked ham
1 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
2 cloves garlic, minced
4 c. chicken broth
1/4 c. flour
1 1/2 c. milk
1/2 c. sour cream
Add all but flour, milk and sour cream to slow cooker.  Cook on low 7-8 hours or on high 4 - 5 hours.  Add flour, milk & sour cream and cook on high for 15-20 minutes.

- HERE is a really cute, and useful, thing you could make for Christmas giving.

- THIS caused another 'awwwww' when I saw it.  While you're there make sure you have a look through her other free patterns (HERE)

- If you've been thinking about making mug rugs this year, perhaps one found HERE might catch your eye (there are also printable labels you can add).

- HERE is another great little quick-to-make gift that could be tucked into a stocking

- THIS would be a great thing to make for a knitter or crocheter (or perhaps even To You, From You, With Love)

Today's quote..."If you love something, love it completely, cherish it, say it, but most importantly, show it.  Life is finite and fragile, and just because something is there one day, it might not be the next.  Never take that for granted.  Say what you need to say, then say a little more.  Say too much.  Show too much.  Love too much.  Everything is temporary but love"

  1. I've been reading your posts for two days now. I keep following links like that crocheted vest...yes you should make it, and forgetting to return to comment. Your RC has been making good use of his new Kitchenaid and YOu have been busy too preparing those neat Christmas gifts. It all looks yummy. You are a good knitter and if only I was nearby we could try that vest together. I would need some guidance with it.

    1. Glad you're enjoying the links! I'm not really a great knitter and only tackle really simple mindless projects. I can't seem to follow anything that has any need for lots of attention and easily lose track of where I am in the pattern so I tend to stick to pretty simple designs. I'm a better crocheter than knitter, hence the choice of a crocheted vest. Just hope it fits!

  2. Nice recipe. I can adjust it for turkey. Thanks Chef!
Thank you for the mug rug reminder! The penguin is awww big time. I think adults could smile with one of their own.

  3. One of the best receptions a gift of mine ever had was a knitted penguin I made for a friend. She ran around at work making people look! I'd say tiny animals are great gifts not just for kids.

    1. I would agree! If I didn't have so many things still to complete I'd seriously consider making one or two.

  4. Oh that soup sounds GOOD! I was wishing I had a ham bone in the freezer when I made lentil soup last week, but no such luck. And now with this recipe I'm wishing I had a ham bone with a pound of ham wrapped around it! Is there anything other than ham that can provide a similar background flavor in soup? Maybe Resident Chef will have a suggestion?

  5. Resident Chef's recipe sounds awesome. Something I definitely need to make.

Shh, I told Hubby I wouldn't sew more quilts or knit more blankets... I lied too.

    God bless.

    1. I don't think there's such a thing as lying when it comes to crafts...is there??
Hope you make the soup because we devoured it.

  8. I'm going to save that recipe - love potato soup, but I can't peel another potato right now. Did 5 lbs. for mashed potatoes on Thanksgiving and another 5 pounds yesterday to make and freeze our Christmas pierogi. Plus the kneading of the dough, my shoulder is barking at me. But I will definitely give this a go soon.

    1. It's definitely a good soup but I could be biased because I love potatoes.

    1. Resident Chef has made butter tarts for too many years to count and every year he's a little bit hopeful that people will forget about them. Unfortunately for him they don't seem to!
