Another hat

The ongoing 'using up odd balls of yarn' project is still underway and this hat is the result.  Another thing for the Christmas box.  Pattern is THIS one and I used Bernat Super Value yarn.

- I usually crochet and knit for others because it's not often I come across a pattern, particularly for a crocheted garment, that makes me sit up and take notice and want to make it for myself.  THIS got me excited (and Resident Chef, being an enabler, is telling me to order the yarn).  (UPDATED TO ADD:  Yarn is on order!)

- There are a number of interesting ideas HERE for Christmas DIY gifts.

- If you're looking to use up yarn stash and you want a really quick, but yet impressive, gift have a look HERE.

- I rather like THIS idea but I would be tempted to go to the dollar store and buy a pre-stretched painting canvas (sorry, don't know the name of it...but envision the canvas stretched over wooden 'bars' about half an inch thick...which would allow space on the back for the clock workings).

Today's quote...

  1. Cute hat, the edge looks to be warm cozy. Stretched canvases. Michaels, last visit, had a large stock of value packs. If there's a store near you, then check it out.

    1. Stretched canvases - good name (and why couldn't I have thought of that!!). Alas the closest Michaels is about an hour away.

Pretty hat and love the colour MA. I can fully understand the need to crochet that vest - it is my kind of project, too. I already have the yarn, and planned to make something similar. Unfortunately other projects get in the way before I get around to do something for myself. As always, love the links. Thank you.

    1. Thanks Val! I very rarely make anything for myself and I think that vest will prove to be very well used over the winter, at least I hope so - provided it fits when I'm done!

    1. Woke up to snow this morning here and of course nobody knew how to drive in it and wondered why they ended up perched in the ditches.

  4. I do like that hat pattern; it will keep some lovely child or young ladies head nice and warm.

Great looking vest, I am glad that Resident Chef said to "Go for it."

    God bless.

    1. Hopefully the hat recipient will like the hat - if nothing else, it should help keep her warm when she's on yard duty at the school where she works.

Sherry of createology: Hello Dear MA. Very sweet little pink hat. I really like this crochet vest and I will be happy to see what color you create yours in. Don’t you just love your wonderful hubby for saying order the yarn?!! We all need HOPE! I brought my hubbby home from the hospital yesterday afternoon. It has been a rough week with his back fusion surgery and I make a terrible nurse. Blessings dear.

    1. I'm making the vest in a denim blue - one of the colours from the sweaters I made for our grandies. I really like the yarn and I wear jeans most of the time so it should go with everything I own.
Please give my best to your hubby - and I'm sure you shouldn't sell yourself short as being a good nurse.

  6. Love your latest hat. Such a pretty colour. I can understand your excitement about the crocheted project for yourself. I am so glad you ordered the yarn and I look forward to seeing your progress. I am tempted to make one myself! Hugs Christine xx

    1. I'm anxious to get started on the vest but I'm going to be good and work on Christmas 'stuff' first. It will be my reward for finishing all the projects I have in mind.

    1. The vest will be in a denim-y blue colour - which will go with the jeans I mostly live in.

  8. That vest looks like my cup of tea, too! But to wear, not to make, as I am not a crocheter. Looking forward to seeing yours :) And isn't it satisfying to use up the odd skeins and leftover bits on nice projects? You are making great strides!

    1. Ah, there's been lots of 'striding' but alas there hasn't been so much as a dent in my stash, or at least it seems so.

    1. Scarves take fore-eeeeeveeerrrr to knit, at least they do for me. I'd a lot rather knit hats any day.
