The smell is everything!

Resident Chef has been playing in the kitchen with his new cookbook and ingredients and this is the first thing - it's a teriyaki sauce and does it ever smell amazing!!!

It still needs to be strained, but if this is any indication of the goodies to come I'm definitely on board!

I would show you an update on the landscape....but....basically it looks exactly the same as it did the last time you saw it.  There's been hours of hand stitching added but I can't seem to get a photo that shows even a sampling of it.  After all, when you've seen one French knot, you've seen them all, right?  And rows upon rows of closed cretan stitch?  Yeah, dead boring. Right now it's all about texture on this one.

- I don't think I would dare attempt doing THIS living in an apartment, but some of you might like to have fun with it.

- Have a look through the galleries of THIS amazing artist!

- HERE is a great pattern to use up yarn stash AND learn some new stitches at the same time.

- And  check out the incredible creations by THIS artist too!

Today's quote is from Angel Chernoff..."When things aren't adding up in your life, begin subtracting.  Life gets a lot simpler when you clear the clutter that makes it complicated"

  1. Great quote, perfect timing!
I was just thinking about organizing art and craft supplies. :)

    1. It seems I've been trying to subtract from my creative stash for several years now and it certainly doesn't look as though I've so much as made a dent!

  2. So I had to find out what you daren't do in an apartment! It's not as noisy as you might think. Just a few sharp blows and you've transferred the color and shape of the plant. It's also fun. She works with muslin, but I like linen for flower pounding. I'd go for it, but maybe not late at night.

    1. My problem isn't just the noise level (although I don't think my neighbours would object too much) but also finding the flowers to actually use. People around here tend to frown on flower thievery!

  3. Your quote is really so true!! We are trying to declutter and finding it hard to do though!! But bit by little bit...you feel as though you yourself are invested in these "things" somehow? My 4 bags of fabric that I donated lifted a big weight off my shoulders--and someone will get use out of them...
I know what you mean about french knots--I love them ;))) but it takes a WHOLE lot to make an impact, doesn't it? I will have to look up closed cretan stitch in my quest to learn new stitches...
Lucky you to have a resident chef;)) hugs Julierose

    1. Decluttering is an ongoing thing here at Chez Magpie and it seems I never get a handle on it all. At least I've put a stop to anyone using my sewing room as a dumping ground for the 'stuff' they no longer want!! Getting rid of the lion's share of my crazy quilting fabric stash was a huge relief, even though it took me a couple of years to muster the courage to actually do it.
And yes, I know how lucky I am to have Resident Chef!! He is also lucky that I'm not doing the cooking or he would be living on Crap Dinner and grilled cheese sandwiches.

Sherry of createology: My Goodness…Anything cooked from scratch tastes much better as the complex flavors marry. Some amazing artists in these links. This quote speaks to me as once again I must cull the clutter! How does it collect?!!

    1. Resident Chef has made teriyaki sauce for a long time but this recipe is way better so I know it's going to become the go-to. And yes, how DOES clutter collect and seemingly multiply overnight?

  5. Wasn't smellovision supposed to be a thing by now?!
Oh yes, clearing out clutter is wonderful! I've been working on room by room in our house and just this week we TOTALLY cleaned up and out our youngest son's room - talk about a disaster there.

    1. I wonder if smellovision will ever become a real thing. Could be good, but then again could be VERY bad!
I know I need to undertake another massive decluttering in my sewing room but I keep putting it off.

  6. Like you decluttering is a continuing challenge especially in the sewing/craft room. Still seems to accumulate for some odd unknown reason.

    That sauce looks awesome.

    God bless.

    1. I think decluttering is a daily thing and still never seem to get on top of it all. At least I'm making a conscious effort to reduce my stash and I'm refusing to be the recycling ground for people who want to dump THEIR decluttering on me because they just know I can find a use for it. Surely it's going to make a difference if I live long enough!

    1. Haven't eaten any as yet - he's wanting it to sit for a bit to blend the flavours. Did a little taste test and it certainly passed that inspection!

  8. I'm all caught up on your posts this morning over coffee. Very enjoyable reading. I so love that little outfit that went in the mail to the grandie. And I can't get over how adept your hubby is in the kitchen...wonderful gift for him, btw. Tony can pour himself a bowl of cereal when I point him to the box, LOL. Went down a little rabbit hole with the crochet waffle stitch...looks so pretty finished, couldn't resist. Thanks so much for the delightful links!

    1. Thank you Jocelyn - glad you found something of interest in all my mumblings. Must admit that Resident Chef is a far better cook than I could ever hope to be and he passed his passion down to both of our sons, to the degree that #1 son is a chef. I taught the boys to cook the basics but they get their flare from him.

Shame there isn't smelltography yet. I'm sure your place did smell great.
I've tried pounding leaves and they certainly didn't turn out like that.
