More or less a finish - a start - and toil

First of all, I finished stitching the bee-themed project and am calling it a finish despite the fact that the search is now on for an appropriate frame for it.  Finished at about 5x7"

Then I turned my attention to the fact that our friend is having a birthday soon so I thought I'd make her a card featuring her favourite flower.  I'll add some lace to tart it up a little more.

In process

The mailman brought a little augmentation for my stash as you can see (but it's not the shipment I need to finish the advents)....

It's hard to tell from the photo but the brown fabric on the left is metallic and the white has a tone-on-tone aspect to it.  The small green piece in the front as well as the quilt label were gifts from the seller (lucky me!!!!).

And...meanwhile....Resident Chef's kitchen has been buzzing as he does a 'bubble, bubble, toil, and trouble' brewing....

He makes our own kombucha and all these containers are part of the process.  The jar on the right is his 'Scobie Hotel' where he keeps the starters.  They keep multiplying and pretty soon he's going to have enough to set up his own shop!!

Today's quote is from Nathaniel Hawthorne..."Methinks it is a token of healthy and gentle characteristics, when women of high thoughts and accomplishments love to sew; especially as they are never more at home with their own hearts than while so occupied"

  1. I'll definitely accept the compliment about women who sew?

    1. Glad you liked them! I love the wee dragon of course, but there might just be a need for a unicorn or two at some point.

  3. That's a sweet finish. And that rose is nice, too! You must have done that one while I wasn't looking. You are fast! I hope you're having a good birthday week, Mary Anne! :)

    1. Thanks Becki - I rather like the bee project too. As for the rose, it didn't take long because it's only small. Thank you for the b'day wishes.

  5. Flora is cute. The photo is sort of abstract as it took eye sorting to see the actual figures.

  6. A lucky person is getting a beautiful rose. Not sure what the Chef is making?

    1. Kombucha - is a drink made from tea which is supposed to be very good for you. Don't know about the health benefits but it tastes good!

    1. I hope they'll like it. I know they're quite interested in the bees they have on their property - they don't take care of them but just provide the space for them.

  9. That card is so pretty - I do love pretty embroidery designs on equally pretty white cloth. Summer is such a nice time for this kind of stitching - it's easy to pick up and put down without having to think hard about where you left off!

    1. I agree - cross stitching small projects is perfect for summertime weather. Much nicer than sitting under a heavy crocheted afghan which I'm also doing.

I haven't tried kombucha yet, but how awesome that your husband is making it.

    1. Thank you Judy - you didn't miss much! Resident Chef's is on the 21st and mine the 22nd so we can get all the celebrating (such as it is!) all over with at once.
