For a little change of pace

...how about a picture of a blooming thing?  I was gifted the amaryllis bulb for Christmas and now am enjoying something pretty instead of looking out at all the snow.

Thank you MEK!

- For those of you who like fingerless mitts, perhaps THIS pattern might interest you.

- There's an interesting discussion about sewing for others HERE.

- The quilters among you might find THIS quilt-a-long of interest.

- For those who are in the season of cold, perhaps you'd like to have a play with doing THIS!

Today the quote is from Martin Luther King Jr..."Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that.  Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that"

  1. Thanks for the gloves link. I've signed up to follow her. That's a good description of cabling.

  2. Love, love, love that conversation about friends and family expecting you to alter, replace or sew whatever just because you quilt--SO TRUE!! I do quilt, but I do not like mending, repairing zips, making pouches etc. just not my forte...So I guess I am an one of those: "A@@$#%^" !! :))))
We had 4.5" of snow overnight so we are in a "Winter Wonderland" here. We've had more snow this Winter than we've had in the past 4-5 years. Being on the SE CT coast here we usually miss getting the snowstorms...but not this year!! So pretty and since I don't really have to go anywhere, being retired and all, I love it!! Hugs, Julierose

I'm one of those too and I sometimes get myself into doing repairs or such for other people because I can't say no to a good friend. It's not my thing either!
Glad you're enjoying the snow and I'll happily send you some of ours if you want it.

  3. Beautiful flower.
Tip for those allergic, with a wet paper towel, remove the pollen thing.
I walk into a room with a blooming amaryllis, and bam! headache city. With the pollen removed, no allergy issues.

Good tip May, thank you! I have a real problem with lilies so next time I happen to be gifted with one, I will try removing that part and see if it helps.

It's lovely to have something growing and putting forth such beauty when we're stuck in the middle of winter.

Sherryofcreateology: I have an Amaryllis that will bloom late this year. Yours is beautiful. I shall not be freezing any bubbles here…way too warm…yet too cold for me. Blessings in this new moon.

I won't be freezing any bubbles either - but not for lack of cold!

It's definitely pretty - and even better that there are two stalks filled with flowers.

  7. and now that i've read the comments - maybe we CAN have an amaryllis next year - their pollen has always made them off limits for us (lillies, too) - it's worth a try ... thank you, Salty Pumpkin!

I don't find amaryllis bother my allergies but lilies are certainly off limits. If I ever end up with any I'm going to try Salty Pumpkin's suggestion (provided I remember!!). It seems to be the scent that bothers me with lilies - amaryllis don't have much (if any).

  8. Now that amaryllis is definitely something beautiful to look at during these cold, dreary days.

    God bless.
