There's been some progress on the latest landscape as you can see from this...
Please excuse the basting threads
(forgot to take a photo before I added them)
I need to keep busy creating to take my mind off the state of the world. Sometimes even immersing myself with fabric, needles and threads isn't enough.
- THIS looks like a fun project and a great use for an old book.
- I don't know how many of you were following my mumblings a couple of years ago when I cross stitched a series of Christmas ornaments, but it's been suggested that I link once again to the pattern designer who lives in the Ukraine. We need to support artists there if we can, so I can recommend THIS shop. If you don't see anything there you like, expand your search for other Ukrainian designers. If you want to see the ornaments I made, check the 'cross stitch' label in my sidebar.
- There are lots of cute quilt block ideas HERE.
Today's quote is from Jimmy Carter..."A strong nation, like a strong person, can afford to be gentle, firm, thoughtful and restrained. It can afford to extend a helping hand to others. It's a weak nation, like a weak person, that must behave with bluster and boasting and rashness and other signs of insecurity"
Jimmy Carter always talked a lot of sense. (And I, too, am finding it difficult to turn my mind away from the evil of the world long enough to string words together or accomplish anything but the most necessary tasks. But I'm trying!)
ReplyDeleteI think all we can do is try our best to take our minds off what's happening. Sadly that doesn't seem to work for me when I'm trying to sleep.
DeleteYour landscape is coming together so well--lots of cute little pumpkins...;))
ReplyDeleteHugs, Julierose
The pumpkin fabric was absolutely a find!
Deleteso amazing
ReplyDeleteSherry of createology: Hello Dear. Your landscape is looking wonderful. How perfect the pumpkin fabric is that you found. The Sunflower is super artsy annd fun. I adore the Ukrainian shoppe of PDF patterns…if only I could cross stitch. Oh My…what a timely quote. I am truly scared for our world. I have always prayed since clamoring to get under my desk at elementary school because of some unknown bomb falling on us…Please God may we have NO wars while I am alive. Since my youth I pray for myself, my child, my granddaughters and now my great granddaughter…and everyone I know to be safe from war.
ReplyDeletePlease God indeed. I worry so much about my kids and grandies and it's awful to no longer feel safe in our country. Good thing I have creativity to try to keep my mind occupied.
DeleteIt looks good, basting threads or not.
ReplyDeleteJimmy Carter talked so much common sense,.we just need people to listen.
Thank you! There are many really great quotes from Jimmy Carter - a voice of reason, particularly now.
DeleteYour pumpkin fabric turned out very clever.
ReplyDeleteI've been following Olta Quilts on You Tube. She is from Ukraine and the best I can tell is still there which I find amazing. Her videos of quilt making doesn't use words, but I found a few posts. In one she mentions making a quilt while missiles are flying over her home. She has some videos of quilt shows she's visit apparently in Ukraine. In some videos in the beginning, it looks like she is in a different place and I wondered if she left the country for a while in the beginning?
That's a wonderful story about Olta Quilts - she's so brave to keep posting and quilting.
DeleteJimmy Carter. He was a man of faith and a leader of great intellect, integrity, compassion, kindness, humility, respect.........a man who was able to extend the hand of friendship to all, even to those across the great divide. Ahh....sleep, where art thou?? My lovely friend, late at night and early in the morning my thoughts and prayers journey heavenwards for you and your Resident Chef. Sadly it's a very long list, these days. And no, I'm not being cliche. Sometimes, prayer is the only thing I can do. And, always, always, speak out against this evil. On a lighter note, your landscape is looking marvellous, but then, they always do. Take care, lovely Mary Anne♡ May sleep find your tired eyes and weary mind♡
ReplyDeleteJimmy Carter was a special man, for sure. Imagine how he would feel if he were still alive and facing the current situation. You're right, praying is about the best thing we can do and resist in every way we can.
DeleteThat's a great many pumpkins!! The landscape is coming along nicely. I find myself waking up at about 4 am and the mind is just churning.... I do a great deal of praying and hoping that things will turn around, though I really do not think that they will. It is going to be a rough ride.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
They are a pumpkin/apple farm so they had lots of pumpkins.
DeleteI know what you mean about the sleepless nights...they're all to common now.
oh, yes - the pumpkin fabric is so, so perfect! it's like it was made just for this one, Mary Anne!
ReplyDeletefriday, saturday - my jaws were clinched so tightly that my neck is still stiff - we have to find balance again cuz this is going to kill us if we don't ... i tried ignoring even the independent news for a day, but the insanity didn't take a break and now Social Security is about to collapse because Muskolini says it's a ponzi scheme and it must be destroyed ... and and and and and and ... it just keeps getting darker ... to the rest of the World - it isn't safe in the Fascist States of America - don't spend your money here, don't trust our government, don't let this happen to your countries ... he's not immortal , but until the FSA is no longer a threat, save yourselves.
I thought the pumpkin fabric was perfect too.
DeleteI can't imagine how terrified seniors must be in your country. It quite simply is beyond unbelievable.
anger has replaced fear - both are soul-killers
DeleteHow true!
DeleteAnother pretty landscape quilt! Love all those pumpkins. I've stopped watching news on TV. Too much ugly stuff, propaganda and brainwashing! I skim through a couple of newspaper headlines every day, that's more than enough.
ReplyDeleteThank you Astrid. I loved the pumpkins too - they had hundreds of them at the farm.
DeleteI'm with you in just reading the headlines, otherwise it's just too much.
I loved Jimmy Carter and have one of his books (“Our Endangered Values”) that he signed for me about 16-18 years ago. That quote makes me think he was prescient about Trump. The current crisis in the US reminds me of, and makes me harken back to, the beginning days of the COVID pandemic. Every day it’s more bad news and unfathomable logic and callousness spewing from the current administration. I hope we can recover from the damage he’s already inflicted. The only thing he’s making great is his and his spineless minions’ wallets.
ReplyDeleteJimmy Carter was a voice of reason. How nice that you were able to meet him. And yes, you're so right about them furthering the contents of their wallets at the expense of the people.
DeletePS - I love this latest landscape, too!! Xo
ReplyDeleteThank you!
