Car progress and a question for you

I've mostly completed the work on the VW 'Beetle' as you can see from this photo....

I'm currently working on the embroidery in the foreground and I'll save that to show you later on (mainly because right now it doesn't look like much!

Now, for the question....do any of you use 'Square' for online transactions?  I'm searching for a better alternative to Paypal who seem to be causing nothing but grief.  I 'did a google' and it's suggesting 'Square' as a good alternative but I want to know from those who are users if you are happy with it before I attempt to sign on.  What say you?

- Just to prove (hah!) that you just never know what you might find on this blog, how about a 'recipe' for eyeglass cleaner you can make yourself?  I was getting tired of buying little teeny containers of it in the drug store so did some research and made my own.  3 parts rubbing alcohol, 1 part water and 2 or 3 drops of liquid dish soap (Blue Dawn, preferably).  Shake before using.  And you're welcome.  PLEASE NOTE:  SEE BECKI's COMMENTS BELOW RE GLASSES WITH ANTI-REFLECTIVE COATING

- Have a peek through the gallery of THIS artist!

- And THIS artist too.

- I thought THIS was an interesting process (and you can find part two HERE)

- And seeing THESE brought a smile to my face!

Today your quote is from Madalyn Beck..."Don't forget to love the way you want to be loved, listen the way you want to be heard, give the way you hope others give, care the way you want others to care, because change doesn't start with them, it starts right here"

  1. No clue on Square. Paypal has scary rules. Good luck

    1. Paypal is now requiring a cell phone number in order to do anything with them and apparently it's getting increasingly difficult to retrieve your money from them so that's why I'm considering a change. They balk at taking payment from me too so I generally end up using the credit card.

  2. That VW looks so realistic. Bravo, Mary-Anne! I've never heard of Square. I've only used Paypal, but haven't for a couple of years, so don't know if it's become more complicated for me. I've not thought it complicated before. One of my sisters very often does money transfers (I think she is able to do them with no fee, somehow). That was new (and felt complicated) to me when she proposed it to me recently. Beware of do it yourself glasses cleaners. You may void your lens warranty if a homemade cleaner damages any coatings (like non-glare).

    1. Lens warranty? Hah - that's non-existent here....not unless we want to pay an additional fee. I don't have the non-glare coating on this pair anyway so I'm not worried.

    2. I'm not wanting to be argumentative, Mary Anne, but are you sure? I just looked online and I see it's not uncommon in Canada. I've never, with all the glasses I've purchased over the years had an optometrist be volunteer information at the time of purchase about lens and frame warranties, but I learned about them a couple of years ago when I was unlucky enough to drop my glasses on cement and scratch the paint off my metal frames. I inquired if there was anything that could done to fix them (I was thinking like some kind of touch-up paint), and the gal in the "boutique" said, "Let me check the warranty." Huh? It was the first time I'd heard the word in all the years I've bought glasses. Unfortunately, I was a month out from the expiration on the frame warranty, so I was out of luck, but I recently got a scratch (I think on the anti-reflective coating) and when I took them in asking about the warranty, I was told I had a two-year warranty on the lenses and a 1-year warranty on the frame. Since I'd only been wearing them about a month, I told her I'd like to hold off and have them remade closer to when the warranty expires (since it wasn't in the line of vision). She said, that was fine, so now I just need to be sure not go past 2 years from when I bought them and I should be able to have them remade. I need to mark it on my phone calendar with lots of reminders. lol You have made me wonder though... Frames and lenses should have a manufacturer's warranty, but I wonder if because my glasses are so expensive (since going to progressives) if part of the expense I pay is insurance for accidental damage. I'm going to ask next time I'm in there.

    3. No, I'm not sure! I've had issues with my lenses before and asked about repair and was told that there's no warranty. I've never been asked if I wanted to purchase any sort of warranty either. Hmmm. Now you have me wondering. Mine are progressives too. I have to get my eyes checked next month and if I happen to need new lenses I will be sure to ask!

  3. BTW, hubs always gets a "free refill" when he takes in an empty glasses cleaner to the optometrist's office. What they really do is swap out his empty bottle for one of their filled ones, but still... it costs him nothing. We pay so much for our glasses, it seems a small thing they do, but it's something!

    1. We used to get free refills here too but not anymore. By the scent of what they gave me a couple of years ago I'm pretty sure it's a rubbing alcohol base so I feel pretty safe.

    2. I've had anti-reflective coating for so long I can't handle glasses without it (learned the hard way). If you don't have it, you're probably safe using alcohol in your glass cleaner. But it can ruin some coatings, so hopefully people are careful about homemade cleaners (or buying stuff at the store, for that matter).

    3. My previous glasses had the anti-reflective coating but I wasn't even asked if I wanted it on these and I can tell it's not there. The odd thing is that the bottle of cleaner I'm finishing now came from the optometrist and it smells exactly like rubbing alcohol which leads me to believe that's all it is.

sherry of createology: Hi MA. Donna Liljegren of Brynwood Needleworks uses Square and you should talk with her. I love all the detail on your VW. WOW to the fiber artists that you have linked. I was defiantly swooning. Enjoy your week dear.

    1. I knew Donna uses Square - that's how I found out about it, but I need to ask her if she's happy with it. I use Paypal when I'm making online purchases but more than half of the time it refuses to work and I end up using the credit card anyway. I've read horror stories about people that has money in their paypal account and they couldn't access it without a huge hassle with the powers that be so that's another reason to bail on them.

    2. Mary Anne, that VW looks amazing, really good. You are such a talented gal.
The patience that is required for some of your links is incredible, just wonderful work.
Your commenter, 'Anonymous' - does he/she really mean 'defiantly' or 'definitely'?

  7. Love the work you have done on the VW Beetle, looks fabulous! I can't comment on 'Square' as I haven't even heard of it other than it being a geometric shape! LOL Christine xx

    1. That's about all I know about it too Christine - it's a shape. I'm just hearing more and more 'downers' about Paypal and I'm wondering if/how I should make a switch to something else. It's not that I make many sales of my landscapes but it's nice to have a safe payment option for people to use.
