KISS-ing (another 'duh' moment)

I have been struggling with the latest landscape and not knowing how I wanted to finish it.  For some reason my brain kept insisting that I should add a border and for the life of me I couldn't come up with anything that I liked.  Finally it hit me (you know....the KISS syndrome!) that it didn't NEED a border.   Why ever didn't that bit of brilliance hit me sooner?  Once I came to that realization it came together quickly and now I have a finish to show you....

"Browers Homestead"
measures approx. 19x28"
FOR SALE!

The inspiration came from this photograph, originally taken by Glen Bowe and used with his kind permission...

- I received an email from Val pointing me towards THIS wonderful article about the healing power of stitch.  It's something we all could benefit from reading I think, whether or not we struggle with any sort of mental health issues.

- THIS is a really pretty shawl pattern

- If you're one of those people who happen to be a fan of Starbucks, perhaps some of THESE knock-off recipes might catch your fancy.

Today's quote..."Learn to trust the journey even if you do not understand it.  Sometimes what you never wanted or expected turns out to be what you need"

  1. I don't see how anyone could be a fan of the union busting Starbucks now under Labor relations Board sanctions for employee abuse. They just closed the Ithaca branch down in retaliation. Just no.

    1. I've never been a fan of them anyway but I know some people are. I guess if you are boycotting them but still love their products making your own could be a valid option.

Only once in Starbucks, I can still almost hear my gasp seeing, coffee $5.00. lol

    1. Yes, Starbucks are expensive - it's not a place I bother going but I know some people like it.

    2. Yes, and I think that's because it is thought of as a hipster type place.

Hi Mary Anne, that article has more related stitchery reads (scroll to the bottom) - very interesting. Regarding the shawl, I saw "easy level of difficulty" - which just seemed a contradiction. :-)
Your collage is so like the photo, I don't know how you do it, just amazing work. Well done, MA.

Congratulations on completing another piece of art. Beautiful. The Healing Power of Stitching was a perfect read for me right now. I signed up for the newsletter. Never know where you'll find that next idea.

And today's quote is what I keep telling myself over and over right now. The biggest problem is pulling out the patience when that journey seems slow.

    1. I think it's human nature to be impatient and want things to happen much faster than the master plan for our lives allow.

  7. You are right, it didn't need a border at all! It's lovely!

  8. My goodness, your landscape is such an excellent representation of the photo. Another incredible finish, Mary Anne. The barn fascinates me. All the dilapidated details are fabulous. I am a proponent of the KISS method. Sometimes nothing other than this action will do.

    1. Thank you Kim! I wonder though if my interpretation is all that good if people are thinking it's a barn....lol.

  11. "stroke the lizard, feed the mouse and hug the monkey" hahaha! Love it! It's worth noting that creative outlets cause many people stress haha . . . when I sew, I am immediately transported into another realm. Love that you decided to KISS . . .

    1. Sometimes we just need to get out of our own way and get on with it. Doubt it's a lesson I will retain however because it doesn't seem to have 'stuck' yet!

  12. Another beautiful finished landscape. It looks fabulous and it is absolutely perfect without a border. Isn't it funny how your brain tricks you into thinking there is only one path open to you when in fact there are many..... something we should remember in daily life too! Hugs Christine xx

    1. Yes, our brains certainly do play tricks on us and even when we do supposedly learn a lesson we still go back to the old ways.

It's beautiful, as it is. Funny how the simple solution is usually the best... seems there's a lot of this complicating things going around right now.

    1. Thank you Jillayne! Simple most often IS better but it depends on the project. It's like making dolls - don't ever start out thinking you'll get a certain result because they will refuse to toe the line.
