Post-Christmas Post

I hope your Christmas celebrations, in whatever form they took, were happy ones.  Here at Chez Magpie it was just the two of us so very low key.  We were able to enjoy a video chat session with #2 son and his family in BC and watch the grandies opening their gifts Christmas morning.  Yesterday we did another short video session with #1 son and his family.  We're still hoping to be able to get together with them for a short visit when he has a day off (he's the chef so therefore has to work on Christmas).  Resident Chef and I gave each other that 'blasted' new phone for Christmas so now I guess I have the huge learning curve in store figuring out how to use it.  He won't touch it because he knows absolutely nothing about technology.  I'm not much better but I'm stubborn so I will figure it out.  Maybe.

Over the break I did complete a couple of projects for the baby....

The sweater pattern is THIS one,  the hat came from HERE, and the toy is the one I make for all new babies and is THIS one.

This morning there are big snowflakes coming down outside and we rather wish we weren't booked for our booster shots this afternoon. At least we don't have to go too far to get them.

Today the quote is from Bob Hope..."When we recall Christmas past, we usually find that the simplest things, not the great occasions, give off the greatest glow of happiness"

  1. Happy to hear your Christmas was calm and bright. Our day was also quiet--just the two of us...hugs, Julierose

    1. Just the two of us here too - definitely no hustle and bustle to contend with.

  2. Happy Booster Shots! Y'all will have strong vaccine life during the worse part of winter. That's a blessing. The worse part of a new phone is getting rid of all the app stuff, and choosing a nice ringer tone. :)

    1. We're happy to have the booster shot behind us. And thank you for the phone assurances. I'm working hard to muster my courage!

  3. Model railroads and Christmas seem to go together! From the train chugging around the foot of the tree, until the cat derails it, and I sneakily think it's about men wanting a model train, so giving it to very young children.. so he needs to show them, you know!

    Happy new year, chez Magpie!

    1. I wasn't a typical little girl I guess because I always wanted a train set. When our boys were little I, of course, simply HAD to buy one for them and then was quite disappointed when neither showed the least bit of interest.

  4. The last thing I ever want for Christmas is new technology! I don't like gifts that are designed to make me feel stupid.

    1. It wasn't really a Christmas 'gift' per se - just happened to be purchased around that time. Resident Chef and I don't bother getting each other anything as a rule so we decided we'd just tell people the phone was a gift. More apt to be a trial!!

  5. I love that you continue to be creative, even during the break. Sweet projects. Hope there's no booster side effects.

    1. I can't sit and do nothing even during festive times, so I just carried on as per normal. Hope there's no side effects too - there wasn't for the first two shots so hopefully there won't be this time either.

  6. Oh that lucky Best-Dressed-Baby-Ever! I love love the little sweater and think that everyone should have a toy like this! My hubby got a new phone last Christmas but that learning curve has been almost flat. I will never totally accept the fact that I NEED to always have my phone with me as some insist that I do.

    1. This wee one is the first girl in our family for many years so she will no doubt be just a teeny bit spoiled.
I'm with you in the non-acceptance of the so-called need to have a phone on hand every minute of every day. I know myself well enough to know that this one won't even be turned on 90% of the time. All I need it for is to show the proof of vaccination and to call the grocery store to tell them we're outside ready for our curbside pick up.

  7. I am so glad you are getting your booster. We got ours the beginning of December and are just so thankful.

I am definitely going to have to learn how to crochet. Must add that to the list of new things to learn.

    God bless.

    1. I hope you do learn to crochet - I find it's much faster than knitting, although it does use a bit more yarn.
And yes, we were hugely relieved to get the booster shot too.

  8. That baby will have so many pretty clothes. Good luck with the phones. The smarter they are, the dumber I feel.

    1. That's the way I feel about those phones too. I'd just as soon not bother with one at all, but it seems it's become more and more necessary these days.

  10. Oh this precious little sweater and hat are too cute. I also I’ve the knitted Lovie Doll. I am blown away by the Miniature Wunderland videos…Yes I love anything miniature! Happy New Year Dear. P.S. I am not a fan of any new technology. Hubby deals with our phones and it drives me crazy even when he does it.

    1. Hopefully the wee one will get some wear out of the outfit. And the miniatures are incredible for sure.

  11. Beautiful baby garments- The little one will look adorable in them. I made the doll from your pattern a while back- it came out well too. Good that you were in contact with the family and also had a quiet lovely time with Jack. I never wanted a phone but was given an updated old one. Hated it..But..during the pandemic it has been a blessing to be in touch with family, especially as it's set to include the whole family group.

All the Very Best for the coming New Year, Mary Anne

    1. What I like about that doll is that it can be made using whatever yarn you happen to have on hand....size/gauge doesn't matter. Even better is that babies seem to really like it.

Thank you so much for leaving comments! I appreciate you taking the time out of your busy life to talk to me. It's wonderful to know that someone is actually reading my mumblings and even more fun if I can connect with you and visit your blog.
