At long last, here is the finished landscape! It took a lot of reverse stitching and a lot more new stitching but I'm finally happy with it....at least now it's lying flat!

My inspiration came from this photo of 'Our Lady of Mount Carmel' in Raymore, Saskatchewan and kindly shared with me by Dale Stewart, a wonderful photographer!
When I first saw this photo I immediately wanted to see if I could create it as a ghostly image of the church. Not sure how successful I was, but I certainly learned a lot. Some closeups...
I think you can click on them to embiggen
Today the quote is from Maya Angelou.... "I've learned that you can tell a lot about a person by the way he handles these three things: a rainy day, lost luggage, and tangled Christmas tree lights"
Just a lovely finish--beautiful work...the ghostly image really came out so well
ReplyDeletehugs, Julierose
Thank you Julierose - it was definitely an experiment to see if I could accomplish ghostly
DeleteIt looks great. You did capture the ghostly part. That was one of the more tricky ones but you did it. You always do!
ReplyDeleteYes it was a bit tricky and required a lot of hit and miss experimentation but in the end I think I'm happy with it. Thanks for your faith in me!
DeleteYou have captured Dale Stewart's wonderful photo perfectly, Mary Anne. The church certainly does have a ghostly look about it surrounded by the darker trees. I would imagine it would have been very tricky to achieve this but you have achieved your aim, and brilliantly so. Love the addition of the flowers in the bottom corner. A successful and fabulous finish!
ReplyDeleteThank you Kim! It was certainly out of my realm of knowledge to try to create a ghost image and took a lot of sitting and contemplating.
DeleteAnd, a beautiful finish it is! You are definitely a master of needle and thread.
ReplyDeleteDunno about being a master, but I fully admit I'm stubborn and refuse to give up!
DeleteFabulous work on the Ghostly Church. Your determination to get your scene as you wish, always comes through and every landscape has been beautiful. This is no exception. Love the garden!
ReplyDeleteAhhh - determination - that's a better word than downright stubbornness!!
DeleteI think you nailed the ghostly effect. Your attention to detail is remarkable. Kudos for another wonderful work of art. And thanks for the links - some good, quick ideas there.
ReplyDeleteThank you Lorraine! This landscape was out of my comfort zone but I wanted to try it. Glad you enjoyed the links!
DeleteThis lovely old church does look ghostly and it is a wonderful ethereal look. Your landscapes are amazing dear. Wow…so many great links just in time to save for next year as fast as the days are disappearing. Great Quote from Maya Angelou.
ReplyDeleteThank you Sherry - I think I accomplished my aim when you consider the confines of fabric itself as a medium.
DeleteA beautiful finish Mary Anne! Hope you have a lovely weekend! Hugs Christine xxx
ReplyDeleteThank you Christine! Hope your weekend is great too.
DeleteWell done! It does look like a ghost chorch.
ReplyDeleteThank you Vicki! It was a fun challenge for sure.
DeleteIt's lovely, Mary Anne. The church definitely looks ghostly. I embiggened the pictures and love seeing the flowers and your beautiful embroidery. I love a rainy day - if I don't have to be out in it much, but otherwise Maya Angelou would not be terribly impressed by me, I imagine.
ReplyDeleteThanks Becki! Rainy days are the best when you're inside looking out.
DeleteOooh, this turned out beautifully! Yes, I can see the church is ghostly, but with all the lovely colours around it, not scary at all.
ReplyDeleteYay! Nice to think I at least somewhat accomplished my goal....thank you.
