Creak.....groan.....

 I'm too old for this!

Or at the very least, the mind is willing,
but oh the body is weak.

Crawling about on the living room floor for an
entire afternoon pinning hexies onto a king-sized
bedsheet is not something for the faint of heart
as my aching knees, hips and thighs will attest!

And to add more angst to the equation I cannot
manage to get a decent picture to show you what I did!

However, this is the best I can do...

There will be more hexies created to add to this
which will mean more crawling about.
Ouch.

On the MUCH brighter side, the mailman earned his stripes and brought this yesterday.  I was lucky enough to win one of Kim's most amazing creations and it came all the way to Canada from Australia.  This is what I saw when I removed the outer wrapper....

Even the box and the wrapping was beautiful!

But the main event was inside!  When I carefully undid the packaging I was rewarded with this ....

The prettiest Christmas stocking I have ever seen!

The sheer amount of detail in this is incredible and it most definitely will not only enjoy being on view during the Christmas season but all year round.

Thank you Kim - you're such a good friend and I will treasure this, and our friendship, ever more!

  1. That is very hard to get down on the floor and pin those hexies in place--the getting up is not so easy either I can attest to that;000...I think it will really look pretty though...

    1. The getting down is easy - it's the getting up and the aftereffects that are not so fun.

  2. Oh, but all that crawling around on the floor was well worth it, as your hexies are looking amazing. I love the arrangement you have thus far imagined. As for your little boot, you are so very welcome, my lovely friend. Xx

    1. My body has yet to decide all that crawling about was worth it, but it's getting there. I'm thinking of the best place to display your stocking....after all, I don't want Santa to miss it!

  3. I have four tables in my sewing studio on which we now pin and baste quilts. But when we downsize, it’s going to be a problem. I figure at that point I’ll either have to stick to lap sized quilts or pay someone to baste and quilt any that are bigger. Those RBG ornaments are way too cute!!

    1. Alas no room for tables (singular OR plural) in our apartment. Even the living room floor isn't big enough to lay it all out at once. Why did I have to want to be an overachiever?!!

  4. There are a lot of hexies already on the fabric and looking good. There are days when we wish we were much younger and more agile. ...if only wishes came true.. Love the stocking you received.
Some interesting and fabulous links like booties and quilts and all between.

    1. There are uncomfortable blank spaces still left on the quilt so I need to fill them with something - probably some smaller hexies. We'll see!

    1. You're so right - I almost hated to open that beautiful wrapping. I knew what was inside was pretty special so I forced myself, but not before taking a photo.

    1. Oh yes, getting down is easy but getting up is most definitely a different matter entirely...to say nothing about the aches and pains in the days to follow!
The stocking is indeed beautiful and I am so blessed to have been given the care (and admiration!) of it.

  8. Oh, I'm groaning just thinking about you (well, actually thinking of me) crawling around on the floor - pinning anything to anything else. My back and knees don't take to kindly to that kind of thing anymore. You will be rewarded with a beautiful creation when it's finished, though.

That Christmas stocking is beautiful and, at the same time whimsical. I'm in awe, not only of the talent that made it, but the fun personality that must be behind something like that. What a nice gift.

    1. I'm in awe of Kim's talent too! And you are so right in thinking that she has a fun personality...one of those people I so much wish I could spend 'real' time with. Methinks we'd be up to no good! She was the inspiration behind the hexie project I'm doing.

  9. That's a wonderful gift. Yes, I can see you'll treasure it

You need a design wall! I'm betting there isn't a solid wall big enough. Hm. It's hard work crawling around on the floor, however great the results.

    1. A design wall in this small place is but a dream. My design wall has to be the floor, creaky bones and all. Good thing I don't do large projects very often!

  11. Cudos to you for being able to spend an afternoon crawling around on the floor! I would have had to stop putting quilts together around 2005 if I didn't have a work table. The Christmas stocking took my breath. Incredible!

    1. I wish I had room here for a table large enough to work on but I don't often do projects large enough to require the use of the floor.
And yes, isn't that stocking amazing?!!!
