An oops - sort of (well, actually there's two!)

 The oops # 1....

Resident Chef made a mess!  The jar on the right is sourdough that has escaped the bonds of the jar and the jar on the left has the lid perilously perched on top about ready to follow suite.  He tried a different method of feeding it and discovered that a much bigger jar is needed.  What was even better is that he cleaned it all up, lowered the level in the jars and then went back a couple of hours later to discover it did it again!  The stuff is alive and trying to take over the world I tell you!!

AND....the second oops (more like a 'what have we DONE' moment) is that we got up on Monday and went about our lives in the normal way only suddenly found ourselves in possession of a new-to-us car.  Furthest thing from our minds!!  The salesman called saying he had an anxious buyer for a car just like ours...a 2011 Rav4 and (the universe aligning as it does at times) he had a trade-in come in on a car he knew we'd like.  So....as of next Monday we'll be the proud owners of a 2016 Toyota Rav4 XLE complete with sunroof (who knew 2 old fogies like us would have a car with a sunroof!!).  We're still in shock.

    1. First time the sourdough has exploded like that so I guess he must have been feeding it incorrectly all along. Who knew!! Good thing the lids weren't on tight!
And thank you - re the car - we don't have it yet b'cause we have to wait for a time slot at the dealership to change over to the winter tires. We have an appointment on Monday.

  2. Yikes that sourdough is alive for sure--it always amazes me how much it develops...
Hope you're planning on a lot of loaves...;)))

    1. Resident Chef bakes with it all the time so there's no worries about using it. We don't buy our bread anymore, plus he makes all sorts of other things with it too. Good thing we love it!

  3. A friend of mine said he had that happen, too. I thought he was exaggerating his prowess at feeding sourdough. Hm.Seems to have been true all along.

    1. We've heard of people having sourdough starter go berserk but it's the first time it's happened here. Obviously it matters how you feed it!

  4. The Resident Chef's sourdough is like the Blob! One of my favorite terrible childhood movies I enjoy referencing whenever I can. Boy, I'd love to have an OOPs moment where we ended up with a new RAV. We've been eyeing newer SUV's for a year now and can't find any that are close to what we're willing to pay. So I hang onto (and still love) my 17 year-old CRV until the day it dies and we're forced to rethink what we'll pay for a newer vehicle, or we stumble onto one that's a price we're happy with. Enjoy that newer RAV4!

    1. Hee hee - see Kim's comment below! Great minds thinking alike!
Re the the 'new' car - it was the absolute furthest thing from our minds. We had fully planned to drive the 2011 into the ground and fully expected at least another ten years with it. This deal was just too good to pass up. We expect it will likely be our final vehicle, barring any disasters.

  5. That is Some brew! LOL..If it keeps growing the Chef may have to start selling it. I love seeing whirling fallen leaves.

    1. One of the joys of sourdough is sharing the starter and he's done that several times already. As for the fall leaves I love walking through them but it's rather a love/hate relationship because I always have to be mindful of allergies.

    1. Yes, oops-zzzzz were running rampant here, but it's all good. Well, Resident Chef wasn't saying that as he cleaned up sourdough overflow, not only once but twice!

  7. The sour dough reminds me of the movie The Blob! I wonder....does anyone have phone books anymore??!! The both of you will feel like royalty driving around in your new car.

    1. Hee hee - see Becki's comment above!! And yes, we have a phone book and use it fairly regularly. But then again, I'm still using an old flip phone so I'm a tad out of style. Might be forced to get one of those 'fancy' phones sooner rather than later because it's starting to look as though banks are going to insist you have one in order to set foot inside, even to deposit a cheque. Argh!!!
Hmmmm - do I need to practice my royal wave?

  8. That's great the starter is so happy, it's jumping for joy :-) The only time I tried, it flopped. I actually just printed a different instruction this morning to give it another go. Enjoy the bread!

  9. oh man.....I have a gallon jar that "Resident Chef" could have if only you lived next door! I am going to put it in the trunk of my car to donate....lol.....I think you are coming along well with your de-clutter. And congratulations on the new wheels!

    1. ooh boy, if we had a gallon-sized jar we'd be supplying sourdough to the entire building! He does have a larger jar than these and obviously needs to use it.

  10. Oh dear! Hope you manage to contain the sour dough! Talking of which I’ve been meaning to start making sour dough but we have this lovely little deli just up the road and we have to do our bit to help keep them in business!
Thank you for the link to the cross stitch patterns, I found one there I like too!

    1. He now has the sourdough in a much larger container and he's keeping a better eye on it. Good thing he kept the lid loose or the entire thing could have exploded!
Glad you found a cross stitch you like!

  11. Thanks to you (sincerely), I’ve subscribed to the fieldlilies blog. I have several posts to catch up on, but plan to join in on the year-long weekly downsizing/decluttering project. And congrats on your new RAV4. We love our 2018 model!

    1. You'll enjoy Becki's blog I know. I'm joining in to the downsizing too but might be in a limited manner, depending on how much I can actually find to get rid of. After I did the big purge earlier in the year I might have to dig a little deeper this time.
And yes, we already know we're going to love the 'new' car. We're already fans of Rav4's!
