A little bit of progress

As you can see there's been some more progress on the latest block...

I would have been able to finish it yesterday except for the fact that I did a little side trip and made some face masks for my chiropractor (who also happens to be a friend).  He is trying really hard to keep his office open for those with acute-needs  but he's working with no protection, for either him or for his patients.  I made him half a dozen masks and he was very grateful and asked if I could manage to make him more so that he could have them in the office for patients to use so I guess I know what I'll be doing for the next few days.  Luckily there's a washer/dryer in the office so they can be washed after each use.

Altho' I do try to keep this blog away from dwelling on the current situation, I thought perhaps I would share something that might be useful for those of you who are unable to find disposable gloves.  My friend came across an idea and shared with me and now I'm sharing with you - go to your local pet food store and buy a large package of dog poop bags and use those on your hands.  Yes, it might look a little silly, but who cares as long as they work!  I got a package of 300 yesterday for about $16.  Hey, maybe we'll start a new trend?  Poop Couture!

Today's quote..."Sometimes the best thing you can do is not think, not obsess.  Just breathe and have faith that all will work out for the best"
Stay safe, stay well.

    1. I used the pattern from Missouri Star - just google 'Missouri Star face mask tutorial' and you will find it. It's an easy one to make and fairly quick.

  3. I was just about to ask that. Thank you. And thank you for making the masks. One of our participants in the virtual knitting group today made a mask while we were chatting, well, posting!

    1. The masks aren't difficult to make provided you have cotton fabric to use (I think poly cotton is okay too). No flannel though because apparently it's not breathable. Well washed of course.

  4. The time has come for me to finally make some masks. I resisted the whole notion, but I guess it's time. Will check out the Missouri Start tutorial. Your block is lovely!

    1. I must admit that I've been resisting making masks as well, but it's come to the point in this whole battle where they are better than no protection at all. I have a fabric stash so I can make a contribution and hopefully help make someone else feel better. The tutorial on Missouri Star is quite easy and I'm doing them in assembly line fashion. We have a drop off point here in town and leave them in a box on the porch - the homeowner washes them with her machine that has a sanitizing function and then they are distributed as needed throughout the community and surrounding area. Something we CAN do.

  5. What a wonderful gift you have given your chiropractor and his office staff. I just sewed masks at the request of my husband. I broke my Pfaff on the very first one so I resurrected my old Japanese Plastic Singer and made some more for family members. Now to get to the post office to mail them. Very clever of you to wear Poop Coutoure. Staying home and staying well...so far. Prayers for all to stay well.

    1. I rather question the wisdom of my chiropractor being available to patients during all this, but it's his decision, not mine. The least I thought I could do is try to make at least some degree of protection to him, his staff and his patients. Needless to say I personally won't be going for my regular adjustments!!

    1. Mask making seems to be something many creative people are doing. I guess it gives us something to deal with the general feeling of helplessness we are enduring right now.
