Dull day = oops

Sometimes my ability to waste time on something astounds even my low expectations of myself.  I should know better than to choose colours on a dull poor-lighting day as this photo will definitely show...

Do you see what I did?  The green on the right does NOT in any way blend even remotely with the embroidered part on the left.  And before you make any comments that ALL greens go together OR that it's the inside of the pouch and therefore won't show - it hurts my eyes.  So there will be some frogging happening here at Chez Magpie today.

However, on the good side, I did finish the embroidery for the front...

The lighting is much better today so hopefully the re-do of the 'innards' will be more pleasing to the eye!  Never let it be said that your Magpie is afraid to show you her mistakes.

Today's quote..."The best kind of people are the ones that come into your life and make you see the sun where you once saw clouds.  The people that believe in you so much that you start to believe in you too.  The people that love you, simply for being you.  The once in a lifetime kind of people"

  1. Once in a life time people aren't all that numerous or easy to find. Great quote

    1. Glad you liked it! Having those once in a lifetime people in your life is something to hold onto.

    1. I interpret too much in ways that I'm sure are mysterious to many. This one simply hurt my eyes. Fixed now!

  3. I need to try the laundry detergent idea. I have all the ingredients. A while back I tried out a similar idea, using block soap, grated, and it was not successful.

We have hard water, which makes great tea, but terrible laundry mix!

Maybe the liquid detergent will work better. Worth a try. Thank you.

I'm a pushover for diy materials, for art and house use. In fact art is the reason I have the ingredients anyway! Used in dyeing etc.

    1. I tried the grated soap thing years ago too and it simply didn't work. We're not allowed to use anything but liquid here - one of the apartment rules.

  4. I'm very arthritis-y, days with limited mobility, so I'll be trying that tub scrubbing trick for sure!!!!!

    1. My thought exactly Jeanne - I'm going to try it too because I HATE cleaning the tub because it hurts.

  6. Picture perfect pouch. Lovely embroidery. You are so good at altering what you consider mistakes. Monitors can show colours differently, so to me the green works well with the embroidered piece.

    1. On my monitor it looks dreadful - and even worse when I was looking at it 'fer real'. It's MUCH better now!

  7. I love that tub-cleaning idea, although I still keep threatening to hire a housekeeper. I’d rather pay someone to do it - don’t know if I’m finally just fed up with a lifetime of housework or just getting old. Or both, LOL.

    1. Ahhh....a housekeeper...definitely a dream! But it's not practical here being that we only have a small apartment now and there's not all that much to clean.

  8. Loving your embroidery. And I love how your mistake looks, too. But I feel your pain on having to rip it out. Thank you for that first link! I use (blue) dawn (and vinegar) in my shower and it works like nothing else ever has, but the broom idea is completely knew to me. I'm going to get a new broom this week to give this a try. I've been putting off cleaning my shower floor because getting down on my hands and knees is always a pain, and this time around I've been afraid I'll have a set back with my shoulder if I try to scrub it my usual way. I am looking forward to seeing how well this works in my situation!

    1. I must admit that one of my most hated jobs (alongside dusting!) is cleaning the tub...painful is the word. I'm getting a new broom too so I can give this one a try. Jack insists that our floor mop will work but I doubt it. IT has a soft pad and I don't think will give enough of a scrub to do the job. We'll see!

  9. Dawn..what a great tip if it works. I have a bottle but don't use it for washing dishes. It seems sometimes hard to rinse cups well enough and if there is anything I HATE it is my first cup of coffee that tastes like soap suds. (Terry is the one that has the rinsing issue). He's a great wiper though, even if he does put things away in strange places, lol.

    1. We use Blue Dawn for a lot of things - primarily for pre-treating laundry. It's wonderful for grease spots! Has to be the blue one though - the rest don't seem to do the job as well. I'm definitely trying it in the tub to see what happens.

    1. We have to be careful here too because of allergies for both of us. Don't have any issues with Blue Dawn though - there's not enough scent to bother either of us.

  11. Both hubby and I use Dawn for everything. I do like the broom idea to save bending and kneeling to clean the dreaded bathtub! Love the little Pincushion. Good People are rare and Priceless! <3

    1. I have yet to buy a new broom but it's on the list to do the next time I'm out. I'm going to try this and hope it works because it's getting harder and harder to get up off my knees after I've been cleaning. Going to need a derrick pretty soon!

  12. Your embroidery thus far is very pretty. On ripping the "innards" out, it you have to then you have to. There is nothing worse than leaving something which is going to annoy you forever and a day.

    1. Yep, I had to - it was hurting my eyes too much. It's done and I'm much happier! Even though I plan to give the pouch away I wanted it to look nice.

  13. Love the delicacy of that embroidery! (and i use Dawn because it's Ph neutral, great for my natural dyes :) )

  15. redoing your innards???? Sounds painful if not slightly illegal lol. I would have been the same, if I'm not comfortable with it then it has to go....having said that, it looked more than ok to me. x
