Having a little play time

I took some time off from my landscape (doing some pondering on it at the moment) and had a little play with my new embroidery templates that arrived in the mail the other day and came up with a couple of postcards....

You should be able to embiggen the photos
if you'd like to see more details.

The templates are most definitely a huge success and I highly recommend them to anyone wanting to ensure your stitches are evenly placed.  And they don't have to be used strictly for crazy quilting either!  If you want further information about these great tools, you can have a look at my post HERE.   Thank you again Janet for sending these for me to test out!

Today's quote..."Eat the cake.  It's someone's birthday somewhere"

  1. Beautiful! Crazy quilt stitching captures such an inspiring side of needkework, it feels therapeutic in a way.

    1. I never thought of crazy quilting as being therapeutic, but you're right. Of course I think pretty much everything that involves a needle and thread (except for mending!) is good for the soul.

  2. Yes, it looks like your new templates helped out with spacing for sure.
The chicken quilt link looks fun and I can see a lot of possibilities for creative interpretation in color and layout.
    Thanks for sharing.

    1. The templates will certainly alleviate a lot of anxiety over spacing for many stitchers. I've never worried overly much about it, choosing to think that if anyone is inspecting my work that closely they deserve to find something wrong!

    1. I simply can't not put beads on anything crazy quilted - it's the magpie coming out in me!

    1. I'm all for the cake too - lemon or chocolate, please. The templates are fun to use and save a lot of reverse stitching when things aren't even enough to suit me.

  9. Oooh... how interesting to see the stitch patterns worked up from your new templates. Some of those look fairly complicated (to me). But how pretty!

    1. They're not complicated at all if you take them step by step. Once you've used the templates to make the base line then it's easy to add other stitches to make them fun.

  10. Beautiful postcards :) What kind of pen or pencil did you use to mark the designs before you embroidered? I have one I like but it fades too fast before I can even get a stitch in.

    1. For these I simply used a mechanical pencil (the ones from the $ store). A light mark with the pencil worked perfectly. If I were working on dark fabrics I would use a chalk pencil in a colour that would show up. I don't like using the fading/washable pens because I've had them show up again after a period of time and they do tend to bleed and not give the fine mark that I want. As long as you keep your marks light your stitching will easily cover them so they don't show. Hope this helps!
