Yesterday I was startled when a large shape flew past my sewing room window and discovered this fellow perched in the tree right outside. He stayed there all afternoon and was still there when we went to bed. Needless to say our little woodpeckers and nuthatches steered clear of the feeder while he was there.
I think he's a red-tailed hawk and he's huge (about 20").

- And if you have someone in your life that likes funky socks (our #1 son!!) perhaps something HERE might spark your creativity. I'm eyeing the Fraternal Twins idea and might just make a pair with leftovers with no care as to making them match. Could be fun!

I've never had a hawk perch right outside my window! Lucky you!
ReplyDeleteIt's not the first time we've seen one, but never this type. The other times it's been a much smaller sparrow hawk.

Surgery scheduled for Feb 12th but got moved up to Jan 23rd yesterday! Now as of today…No surgery however s Scope procedure for late Feb. I cannot keep up and he remains grumpy and frustrated. DeleteWhat a great landscape!! At first I thought that the bird was a Great Horned Owl, until the picture where it turned it's head. Big hawk, ours do not seem that big.

ReplyDeleteWhat a stunning hawk! We used to have a hawk family in our neighbour's tree next to our driveway. Sadly, the tree came down after a storm and they didn't find another one close by.
I really enjoyed working on this one and the name seemed fitting.
