The journal

Today I'll show you the journal that traveled around with Shudayra.   It's hard to get really good detail of the pages but hopefully you can click to embiggen the pictures to see more.

This is the front cover that I created to accompany her on her travels.  The bottom half was crinkled up brown paper with butcher cord 'stripes', the top was gauze with paper flowers, sequins and beads.  The middle part was more cord.  Painted gold and then dry brushed to antique it somewhat.

The inside of the front cover showing the pocket that the 'picture'  of the naked Shudayra fits in.

This is the back of the 'picture' you see in the above photo

Below you see the first spread done by the first artist.....

The second spread....

The third...

The fourth....

This page was done by the young daughter of the artist that worked on the doll

The fifth....

The sixth...

and, finally, the seventh...

All in all, Shudayra took almost a year to travel throughout  Canada and the US spending a little over a month with each artist before moving on to the next.  At that time I was a member of an online art doll group and this collaboration was arranged through that group.

If you are interested in seeing more of the dolls that visited with me during the collaboration, please click on the 'Dolls' label in my side bar and keep scrolling through.  You'll see them, along with some of the other dolls I've created over the years.

Hope you enjoyed this little series! Because this post is quite picture-heavy I think I will forgo giving you my normal links and the quote.  Try not to be too disappointed!

    1. I think the artists put about as much effort into creating the journal as they did on Shudayra herself. Amazing work from them all!

    1. Yay - so glad you're trying the Jeans yarn. Let me know how you like it! I would love to have what it takes to knit myself a sweater with it but I know my knitting expertise doesn't extend quite that far.

    1. I must admit that it was one of the most fun things I've taken part in. The other dolls I worked on were equally as wonderful too so that made it even better.

  9. It's wonderful to see how much thought and creativity went into each of those pages and each of the stages of the doll and horse. I think it takes a certain amount of courage and confidence in your work to take part in something like that. Looks like this was a very rewarding experience.

    1. The creativity that went into all the dolls was a constant source of inspiration, for sure. I don't know about having confidence in my work but I sure did have fun (and there's more about confidence in my post that's going live on Monday)

  12. Don't know how the phone saga is going. I'm still having trouble with google letting my phone make these comments. So I finally got around to my laptop to make this comment. About 5 yrs ago, G and I got frustrated with our companies constantly raising our prices and mine was changing to a plan that did not have coverage for the part of Kentucky where my family live. So that meant my phone would be dead when I traveled. I spent a LOT of time on the computer comparing not only costs but the area they actually covered. We were about to travel the entire perimeter of the U.S. west of the Mississippi for our Bucket List. We actually ended up with a program that was cheaper when G and I went together for 2 phones. This company had us buying our phones up front which we managed ok. I liked buying the phone rather than a "for life rental" monthly payment on a phone like most major companies here require. We now pay about 50% less a month to use our 2 phones with unlimited calls, text, internet than the old phone I had when I only could make phone calls. I hope you turn out that well and buying that fancy phone won't be so bad. Just research first.

    1. Thanks for telling me there's some hope! I'm doing lots of research but unfortunately most of it is like comparing apples and oranges. Most of it I don't understand either!! All I want is something basic for a reasonably low price, but that will also work where I need it too. Not too much to ask?

  13. Mary Anne I think this is one of the most beautiful pieces of artwork I have ever encountered. I love the doll and horse but the journal is just splendid and what a treasure to cherish! Hugs Christine xx
