This is the second in my mini-series featuring 'Shudayra', my art doll that was created in a collaboration with other artists throughout Canada and the US. One of the artists created a wonderful horse absolutely filled with incredible details. The horse itself was created with papier mache techniques using a plastic dollar store toy horse as a base.
Above you can see one side of the horse which features a woven reed basket containing a spirit bag filled with runes (more details further down).
Below shows the other side. You can see the pannier on the back which contains a rain stick and a clan scroll (again, more details further down). There is an amazing 'ruffle' collar - all created from papier mache.
These four pictures show details of some of the additions to the horse. The basket (on the left) was woven from reeds, and the saddle bag (below) is papier mache.
Interesting horse, amazing details
ReplyDeleteDeclutterer will miss the asparagus. lol
I would definitely miss the asparagus - but NOT the bra!!
DeleteLoving that little Japanese saying: so true gave me a big smile...
ReplyDeletethat horse and the accoutrements are simply amazing works..what a talented group of artists you and your friends are!!
Thanks for sharing hugs, Julierose
Yes, it was definitely a talented group that was involved in making the dolls. I sometimes wonder how many of them are still making dolls.
DeleteThat horse is amazingly intricate. Is the figure back with you now?
ReplyDeleteOh yes, this collaboration took place around 2010 I think so she's been living in my sewing room for quite awhile.
DeleteWhat fun you must have had to receive Shudayra back looking like that! And the horse is magnificent. I think it is such fun to see how clever our friends can be with a project like this.
ReplyDeleteI just wish times were different and it was an option to do more things like this. Alas the costs for postage have put an end to it. It was certainly fun while it lasted though!
DeleteSuch detail. I love it.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
I do too Jackie - it was fun to work on everyone else's art dolls but even more fun to get Shudayra back!
DeleteP.S. For some reason your comments on my blog are not making it to my gmail--or onto my blog...
ReplyDeletewill check it out on my end Julierose
Hnmmmm - seems to look okay from my end Julierose - maybe Blog-grrrrr is having another bout of indigestion?
DeleteMy goodness what incredible details this artwork contains. It is truly magnificent! Christine xx
ReplyDeleteMagnificent - definitely! Every time I look at her and her steed I think I see something new.
DeleteThis is such a wonderful collaboration for Shudayra. Her horse is very creative and I adore all the additional embellishments and such. Perfect sentiment on what I would throw out for decluttering.
ReplyDeleteI really think my favourite part is the horse. I never would have thought of doing something like that.
