Something a little different

Remember that new fabric stash enhancement from a week or so ago?  Part of the plan for some of it was to make this for a birthday gift...

My friend made the mistake of mentioning that
her makeup brush holder was looking shabby so
that gave me the incentive.

It's a bit hard to tell in this photo but there's a flap that covers up the brushes and helps to hold them in place...theoretically anyway!  The inside is lined with that waxed fabric I bought.  First time I've used it so we'll see how well it wears.  Hopefully it will be somewhat wipeable should the need arise.  The pattern is 'Roll-Up Organizer' by Tim Holtz for Coats and can be found HERE.

And this mess is me trying to come up with a prototype design for a new project.  Certainly gives me a great appreciation for pattern designers because it's definitely a challenge!

Stay tuned to see if it ends up being a success or another of those things destined for the 'file' beneath my desk!

- THIS is one of those things that's wow-worthy!

- Have a look through the gallery of THIS artist.

- If you're interested in making a temperature blanket (or if you don't know what they are!), there's a great article with lots of tips HERE.  I've often thought of making one and then I remember that I would have to buy yarn AND that I have the attention span of a gnat so it wouldn't be such a great plan.

- Because fall is just around the corner (at least here in this part of the world) maybe you'd like to make one of THESE.

THIS is rather pretty too.

Today the quote is for those of you who garden and is from Ralph Waldo Emerson..."What is a weed?  A plant whose virtues have never been discovered"

  1. I love the fabric you used for the organizer. That organizer can be used for lots of stuff...paintbrushes come to mind.

Those butterflies are amazing!!! So beautiful.

Fall!!! I'm sweltering at the moment although you're right. September is looming and the kids will be back to school....hopefully....summer will be over in a way.

    1. Yes, it certainly would be great for paintbrushes too. Could be expanded upon for garden tools too I suppose.

The Wow is neat! I can see stitching butterflies for broaches, good gift idea.

  3. We were just talking about that yesterday in my knitting group, and one member showed us the temperature scarf she knitted. One row per day. It was really interesting. However she pointed out that there's a lot of finishing if ends unless you weave as you go. I fancy making one, until I realize the outlay in yarn, not having a stash.

    1. I think I would want to finish the ends as I went if I were to make something like this. I, too, like the idea and would love to make one until I stop and realize the outlay for the necessary yarn colours. That returns me to reality in a hurry!

  4. What a lovely little make-up brush holder. Lovely, Mary Anne.
Those butterflies take some patience, don't they - beautiful though.
Ha ha - that temperature blanket looks lovely and cosy for in the wintertime - but my crochet blankets tend to take that long anyway!
I think a weed is often a beautiful plant - just in the wrong place. :-)

    1. Thanks Val - I hope my friend likes it. I love the temperature blanket idea but not something that's on my agenda to make. Would have to take out a small bank loan to buy enough yarn!

    1. It would, for sure, work well for a diamond pen holder. There are lots of uses for it I would think.
Hot here today, but not unbearably so.
