An update - and a warning

I decided that the crazy quilt throw I was working on required another row of blocks so I've been working on those.  I need 5 and 4 are ready for machine embroidery now...
There's one more currently being put together in tones of soft yellows.  Once they're done I will add them to what you saw last time and it will make a twin-sized quilt.  It will serve as a throw on the foot of our bed and also be useful as a quilt for someone to curl up with.

As for the warning part of this post....I've been asked to provide a photo of myself (gah!!!) to the new 'Crazy Quilt Magazine' now owned and edited by Lisa Boni so the long-suffering Resident Chef did the honors and took a few pictures.  I thought some of you might like to see what I look like (as I said - gah!!!!!!!!!) but I'm warning you now!
Have I mentioned how much I hate having my picture taken???!!!!  I have agreed to continue in my role as proofreader for the new magazine and I'm looking forward to working with Lisa and seeing the changes she has planned.

Today's quote is from Maya Angelou...."We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their color"

    1. Resident Chef does a good job of keeping my hair looking somewhat decent. And I know you wouldn't part with a single one of those books!

  3. Hi Mary Anne,
Nothing wrong with your photo, you look great!
That shawl is gorgeous, and looks lovely and warm.
Zemer Peled's work is amazing, and for some reason I thought it was some sort of rubber/foam sheets, but no! She uses shards of porcelain. Truly amazing.
I watched the "retrospective documentary" with Michael Sherrill - golly that man is talented. How wonderful to be able to do what he does. I am so envious! At school, I managed to do some sculpture and loved it. Then evening classes in pottery, still loved it. Though not all of us can have a studio like his, and with his inauspicious start, he has achieved great things.
Great links today, Mary Anne. :-)

  4. Well I can tell by your smile (which is almost there) on your photo that you do not like to have your picture taken...but all kidding aside... "you are beautiful....so own it!" (A quote from the movie Jumanji which was appropriate here, I think)...I've seen a lot of those ideas for old books but I hadn't seen the succulent container...good one!

    1. He took at least a dozen photos and in this one I looked the least like a deer caught in the headlights - the rest were WAY worse!! Thank you for your kind words.

  5. Mary Anne Dear you look great in your new photo. I can see you have slimmed down and you look younger. Hubby and I have breathed a huge sigh of relief. We were with four couples for dinner and visiting just two weeks ago. Three of the couples have Covid now and thankfully we escaped and tested negative. So very grateful and feeling Blessed.

I am so relieved that you've tested negative. Please be sure to get a second test to be doubly certain you're okay.

  7. Love seeing a picture of you, Mary Anne. Please ask Resident Chef/In-home hair cutter if he's taking appointments from your readers. Even though I've never quilted anything I've been glad to read that Crazy Quilt Magazine is going to continue.

Now I've got to comment on Zemer Peled's creations. Like Val, I assumed I was looking at something flexible like foam or rubber. Until I clicked a picture to read the description. And then clicked another. And another. Never would I have imagined all those things are made of porcelain. And porcelain shards, no less. Somehow I still think they must be able to move like the creatures they represent. Sigh. Amazing.

    1. Haven't we all dreamed of having our own private spa at home? Well I have one! He's cut his own hair (what there is of it) for years so I guess he's not intimidated by doing mine.
I too was blown away by those porcelain creations. Such an amazing mind to think of doing that!

    1. I thought that since the photo was heading for a crazy quilt magazine application that the least I could do was have a crazy quilt in it too.

  11. We both have short white hair and I have to wear glasses when I stitch. We could be twins! You look great; no need for camera shyness. Meanwhile, I love the piece in your header-so many lovely touches.Beautiful quote and I must check out those links. Thanks.

  12. You look lovely, and modestly making space for the CQ. You're lucky to have an in-house hairdresser. I do too, me! My son cuts his own, too. So the last few months haven't changed our appearances, beyond the passage of time, that is. But I'm hearing a lot of distress calls from people not liking their hair, or eyebrows, or, this one amazed me -- their facial waxing. I didn't know if it was a thing before. But they're vital to the folks who don't feel groomed without them.

    1. I wouldn't dare try to cut my own hair, although I do my bangs. I can only begin to imagine the mess I would make of it. Facial waxing absolutely confounds me. The pain level must be so high for that one. I'll continue to resort to tweezers!

  13. Mary Anne, my goodness, girl! I knew what you looked like already, of course, but how is it that you’re so much thinner and younger now?!? Has 2020 turned time backwards for you? xo

    1. Younger? I wish! You're right that there's less of me though - 36 lbs to be exact. Don't think I'd want to turn back time if it would involve going back to do this virus thing over again.

You are even prettier in person than your online "voice"! Thanks to you and Resident Chef for the photo session, and also thanks to Lisa Boni for wanting to put your picture in her version of the Crazy Quilt Magazine.

  16. You look fabulous Mary Anne! And you do look younger than I remember seeing you before!
My hair is normally a similar length to yours, but last cut in March I’m in dire need of a cut so you definitely won’t be seeing any photos of me!
Lovely to have the chance to “see” you again.
    Hugs,

    1. Thank you - nice to know I'm regressing in age! I'm lucky that Resident Chef is willing to cut my hair because otherwise it would be really long by now. Mine grows really fast so he's already cut it five times. Once winter comes I'll likely let it grow a bit more.
