A finish!

Here is a finish of a different sort!  You're used to seeing my landscapes but how about the finished crazy quilt for a change?  As you can see from the photo it just covers the foot of our bed which is rather necessary because our bed is up on  risers to allow for storage underneath.  That means that pretty much all purchased bedspreads don't end up being long enough and leads to the need for something a little extra.

For some reason Blog-grrr is pitching a hissy fit and refusing to allow me to align photos in the middle.  Oh well.

This new quilt (twin-sized) will be part of our winter ensemble on our bed.

Here's a closeup of one of the blocks so you can see the machine stitching....

The fabric I used around the blocks is actually meant for curtains and is something I found at a thrift store at one time.  I have LOTS of it so it was nice to use some of it on this project.

And....look what arrived in my sewing room doorway over the weekend?  Sourdough sticky buns!

Today's quote from Abraham Lincoln..."In the end, it's not the years in your life that count, it's the life in your years"

  1. Your finished crazy quilt is beautiful, Mary Anne. That dark red (or burgundy) fabric adds a real richeness - and puts me in mind of crazy quilts of old. I enjoyed the ideas of using doilies and while it seems impractical, the one I liked the best was the cake cover. Super cute! And finally... is your goal to make us all jealous? You are so fortunate to have such a thoughtful and talented chef in residence. That sticky bun looks awesome.

    1. The sticky buns ARE awesome! But I have to be careful not to eat too many. I don't know how many yards of that burgundy fabric there are/were but I still have tons even after making this quilt. Glad I was finally able to come up with a use for at least some of it.

  2. I wonder why everytime Blogger decides to "improve" things they sometimes seem to get worse? Your crazy quilt finish is lovely and I can smell that sourdough sticky bun from here!

    1. So called improvements always seem to lead to a period of adjustment. We'll probably like it once we figure out all the bells and whistles (and after they've sorted out the kinks!). Oh yes, those sticky buns smelled divine!

  3. I do not like to use the word hate, but I have to say I "hate" the new blogger. I've tried to put up with it on and off to see if they've changed what little ole me has fussed about in feedback. There are a couple of changes. So far I'm using the legacy format as long as its still there because as you say, the new has a mind of its own and as I keep complaining it takes twice as many clicks to do anything.

LOVE the idea of using found curtain material for your quilt. Nearly every hotel we've stayed in since our big trip across our beautiful nation in 2016 (posted on blog), used what I called foot quilts on the bed. I guess its an answer for people climbing onto the bed with their shoes to watch TV? So you've actually picked a popular choice to cover the foot of your bed, little ole me thinks.

    1. I didn't mind the new version for awhile but there's been a few more changes and those are not so much fun. I suspect they'll sort it out in due time though.
I don't know what those 'bottom of the bed' quilts are called either - but I like the term foot quilts!

  4. I am having the same problems with New Bloggerrrr...so i have switched back to Legacy--I am just tired of spending so much time trying to fix something that I didn't mess up in the first place...they need to get their act together...

    1. I remember when Blog-grrrr did their last update and it was messed up for awhile but eventually it got sorted out. Hopefully the same will hold true this time around as well.
      (glad you have power!!!)

    1. Thank you Sherry - it will look cozy when the weather turns cold. I like to use a summer and a winter 'footer' on our bed so this won't be used until later in the year.

  6. It must please you Mary Anne, to complete something old (past project) something new (finished foot quilt) and having made in in quick time compared to hand stitching. It looks good on the bed end.

    1. Yes, it's always a great feeling to check something off my to do list. I don't often have UFO's sitting around and this one was becoming that if I didn't hurry up and finish it.

  7. Your quilt looks awesome Mary Anne! It’s great to have a stock of curtain material for projects like this!
I don’t like the new Blog-grrrrr and will use legacy as long as possible! Especially after reading what it has done to your post!!! It is hard enough to get posts looking as we want them.
Oooh, sour dough sticky bun looks fab, well done chef!
    Keep safe and well.

    1. When I bought that curtain fabric at the thrift store I had plans to actually make curtains but they never happened. Curtains, after all, are boring to make! The fabric was perfect for this project. I have enough left that I could easily make another quilt.

  9. The new Blogger allows photos to be positioned differently using the dots. I found how to do it, but forget the exact instructions.
Lovely and interesting quilt, the colors are cheery for a room.

    1. I was use the different positioning without any issues on the new Blog-grrrr but for some reason it didn't want to co-operate this time. Hopefully they'll fix the issue soon.

  10. I love your CQ bedspread! Machine stitching on the seams is the way to go to make it useable in that way, as we old CQers know. Gorgeous finish!!! PS - I’m having Bloggggrrrrrr problems too with alignment.

    1. Thank you Cathy. It's not really a bedspread per se - just a throw for the foot of the bed. It IS the size of a twin sized sheet though (because that's what I used for the backing).
As for the alignment thing - it seems to be common to most everybody at the moment.

  11. Your bedspread is lovely, Mary Anne. It does look fabulous at the foot of your bed. I wish sourdough sticky treats would suddenly appear in my sewing room whilst I am stitching.

    1. Wish I could send you some sticky treats! Resident Chef was quite pleased with his efforts - and he's quite pleased with the new bed throw too. Normally I don't get much reaction from him but he's said several times that he likes it.

  12. Love the CQ quilt and the simple stitching at the seams. As always, the new blogger is having it's issues. It will probably work it's way out.

    1. Sometimes keeping it simple is the best, particularly when it's going to be in use every day. The issue with the centering of blog photos seems to have been resolved but it remains to be seen what new issues will crop up.
