Yes, there has been something happening here at Chez Magpie - at least in the evenings in front of the tv anyway. I finally treated myself to a pair of hand knitted socks....

The pattern is my favourite sock pattern...the ' Basic Ribbed Sock' by Kate Atherley which can be found HERE. I LOVE this sock pattern! It's basic and yet not boring to knit. I do change the toe to one that's a little more rounded but otherwise I stick to Kate's pattern. (if you're interested in the toe pattern I use, let me know and I'll share it). The yarn for this pair is Regia from Schachenmayr in one of the colorways by Arne and Carlos. One ball made a size 11 pair of socks.
Next 'up' on the needles is a sweater for #2 grandson - a stash dive yielded enough odds and ends of blues that will look okay in a striped pattern. At least I hope there's enough! Also found enough to make #3 'grand' a sweater too. Alas the stash let me down for making anything for #1 'grand' so will have to place an order I guess.

ReplyDeleteI agree - those are two of the best books ever! Wonky Donkey was a more recent discovery and I must admit I've watched that video of the grandma reading it over and over. Makes my laugh hysterically every single time.

ReplyDeleteMy favourite colour is blue so my socks had to be that colour (b'sides I pretty much live in jeans so it's a win/win). The sweaters will hopefully keep our little guys warm on cool evenings in the summer and into next winter (provided they don't outgrow them TOO fast!)

DeleteIt seems so inadequate, but all I can say over the butterfly and moth creations is, wOw! Your socks are so pretty. A little part of me would like to try knitting socks except that I know I'd dread having to make a second one - which would make me regret having made the first one. Meanshile I just keep admiring others' handknit socks.
ReplyDeleteYes, aren't those flutterby and moths incredible!! I simply can't imagine stitching anything that intricate. As for knitting socks, I resisted for a long time and finally decided I needed to see what all the hype was about. Luckily I stumbled on this easy pattern and now I really enjoy making them. I wish I was a faster knitter though and could make a pair in a week like so many people can.
