R-o-a-r !!

Just to prove that there's something else that's been happening here at Chez Magpie other than cleaning/shoveling/backhoeing and sewing, how about a dinosaur sweater that I just finished?  I usually knit or crochet in the evenings in front of the tv so this is the result of two or three weeks of evenings.

Pattern came from a Beehive booklet called 'Knit Menagerie' and Ravelry has it HERE.

Today's quote is from Elizabeth Zimmermann..."Properly practiced, knitting soothes the troubled spirit, and it doesn't hurt the untroubled spirit either"

    1. Yes - our #2 grand is getting this one. #1 got his a couple of years ago. AND - the same pattern was used to make one for #2's Daddy over 30 years ago!

  2. Nice work! My grandson would enjoy wearing that!
And I like your progress in your last post.
The crochet planner is brilliant, stay organized, yes.
I have an informal notebook I keep on projects, I need to keep dates more accurately in it.
And yes to Elizabeth's quote, there are lots of benefits to knitting/crocheting, I agree.

    1. There aren't too many little kids that wouldn't like a dino sweater - just hope it fits him! The Paw Patrol one I made him for Christmas was, I thought, too large and it just barely fits. He's a tall boy!!

    1. I like the term 'jumper' - here a jumper is normally a sleeveless dress worn over something like a long sleeve blouse or pullover.

    2. That is interesting MA. I did not know that. Perhaps jumper was derived from the old word jerkin that Robin Hood wore. LOL. But still it wasn't as long as a dress.

  4. Honestly, every thing you make in whatever medium or art form is such excellent quality! You're pretty darned good at stuff!

  5. Hmmm - maybe I need to add that to my name - Magpie DGS (would be fun to see how people would react to that!!). Thanks Quinn - nice of you to say!

    1. This pattern is one of those sweaters that seem to be a 'thing' in our family - both my boys had one when they were little (no idea where they went) so it seems natural that THEIR sons get one too.

    1. Might have been a little longer than three weeks, but I don't think it was. It's not a super-fine yarn so it worked up pretty fast. Now I'm using some of my leftover yarn stash and making another striped sweater....anything to downsize!!

    1. I hope he likes it - but even more importantly I hope it fits!! The last one I made for him just barely fits right now and he won't be getting much wear out of it I'm afraid. Hopefully this one is too large so there's room to grow into it.

  11. This is seriously such a cute sweater and the fact that you have made them for so many years is wonderful. I agree you should add D.G.S. To your name. Another perfect quote for your post. Lots of good links with tutorials...thank you dear. January Joy...

    1. Wish I knew what had happened to the sweaters from over 30 years ago, but they've disappeared (probably got passed along to another little person somewhere along the line). Just happy I still had the pattern in my stash.

    2. I know about the stubborness. Led me to not let computers defeat and then teach it.

  16. Love the sweater. My mom knit a dinosaur sweater for my brother when he was little. He's now a retired Mountie (lets you know how long ago)

    1. I think this dinosaur pattern has been around for a long time. My friend knit one for our youngest son (he's now 33) and I'm sure it was around before that.

  17. That is a cool sweater. Dinosaurs are wonderful - they never get old. Every generation loves them

    1. For sure - don't know of too many little kids that don't end up liking dinosaurs at some point. My friend made this same sweater for our youngest son when he was little (back then I didn't knit) and that was over 30 years ago.

  18. That sweater is adorable! All of my boys would have loved wearing that when they were little. And my oldest turns 30 in 2 1/2 months. I also agree that every generation loves dinosaurs.

    1. Our son had the same sweater when he was little so that pattern has been around for at least thirty years and probably way longer than that. I suspect it might just be around for thirty more!
