Pillow and flowers

First of all, I want to show you the amazing Amaryllis that has just burst into bloom in my living room.  It's absolutely stunning!  (Thank you MEK, who gifted the bulb to me for Christmas!!!)

While I was creating the pillow cover I showed you the other day, I decided I really needed to do a second one and this is what I came up with....

This was created using an orphan block which I subsequently added more 'gee haws' to.   You can embiggen the photos if you click on them so you can see further details.

  1. Amaryllis never fails to amaze! Such a huge size, and this one's a lovely color. Enjoy. Perfect midwinter flower

    1. The friend who gifted this one to me has one herself and hers has two flower stalks - double the beauty! Mine was so top-heavy that it toppled over and had to be staked up (should have done that in first place).

  2. Your work is amazing!
I'd make a mat board box that fits in a fabric sleeve for the plate. I buy pretty plates at thrift stores for picnics, and special winter lunches.

    1. Thank you - so nice of you to say that! I have fun in my sewing space and that's what counts.

    1. I think spring is a long way off yet. We're supposed to get a big storm this weekend, but I'm hopeful it will slip past us. Fingers crossed!

  4. The flower is stunning. I used to dislike their stiffness but have grown to appreciate their beauty.
You have outdone yourself with the latest cushion. It's Fabulous in every part.

    1. The plant itself isn't that exciting but it certainly makes up for it with the magnificent flowers. Each of these has to be at least six inches across. Glad you like the cushion top - I like it because I was able to use something out of my stash!

  5. MA Dear I love your CQ Pillow!!! The soft colors and use of laces and doilies is making me swoon. I am partial to this color combo which is so elegant. Very fun and practical links. Thank you for sharing them. I like Maya Angelou’s quote. Creative Bliss My Friend.

    1. Both of the pillows now reside on our bed - we have an off white bedspread and pillow shams so these fit nicely with what's already there. My CQ'd teddy bear (another round robin project) is in those colours as well so he gets to live on the bed too.

  6. What a beautiful Amaryllis. I gifted a bulb to someone for Christmas too, I hope theirs has bloomed as nicely! Love the pillow cover, really pretty! Christine xx

    1. I used to buy amaryllis for my mom quite regularly and the Resident Chef has given me the odd one over the years, but this is the first I've had for quite awhile. A bright spot of colour in the midst of the grey winter days here.

  7. What a beautiful shade is that Amaryllis. And the pillow is lovely. I love all the shades of white, ivory and beige. As for a tote. I'm no help as I'm thinking that's one of the many reasons I save plastic bags. I'm likely going to have to tote out my dirty dish and cutlery, so I want something I can just throw away. I'm such a pragmatist sometimes. ;^)

    1. I love the bright spot of colour from that flower - certainly gives the living room a nice lift this time of year. And yes - plastic bags are what I use too, but I was hoping I could find a pattern for something that I could do with gift giving in mind. There are lots of patterns out there for toting various sizes of casseroles and I know I saw one at some point that was for a plate and utensils, but of course I didn't bookmark it and now can't find it again.

    1. The photo doesn't do the colour of the flower justice either - it's so much richer than what it appears here.

  9. I love amaryllis'. We currently have a white one blooming. Yours is beautiful. And so is the pillow. My eyes were immediately drawn to the beautiful white bird.

    1. I used to buy amaryllis' for my mom but haven't had one myself for a long time. It's been nice to have something pretty to take away from the dull dreary winter outside.

    1. Thanks Karen - I thought you might like the pillow because there is an element of white to it!
