I wanted to test out a new way (at least new to me!) of joining two colours of yarn and scrounged through my stash to find some part-balls that would work together. This hat is the result and I know I'll be using that method of joining again. If you'd like to try it for yourself, here's what I did....on the row where you want to change colours, work 1 knit stitch in one colour and 1 knit stitch in the other across the row. I suspect working 2 knit stitches would work just as well.
- I may have provided a link to THIS process before but if I did it was a long time ago and perhaps there are some new readers that might find it useful to know.
- FINALLY a good use for AI!!! Go HERE to see what I'm mumbling about!
- THIS looks like such fun to make!
- First go and read about THIS amazing artist and then visit his gallery of work HERE.
- There is tons of inspiration HERE!!!
- oooooh - I want some of THESE!!!!
Today's quote...

I do like ideas for using up scraps. My own scraps are tiny -- no stash here-- and I can't throw anything away!
ReplyDeleteI'm always on a quest to use up yarn else it buries me. Hats are a good way and they serve well for donating so win/win. I really like this 'new-to-me way of joining colours.
DeleteMA, is there anything you don't do? My mom was like you. She could knit, crochet, sew, embroider, cross stitch...she did decorative painting, made cards...she just loved to make stuff! And she sold Avon and she was a nurse!
ReplyDeleteHah - I sold Avon too!! Did decorative painting back in the day too. I must admit I get bored if I'm doing only one thing, hence the bouncing all over the place. Knitting and crocheting takes place in the evenings in front of the tv whereas all the rest happens during the daylight hours in my sewing room.
Deletei'm gonna pass on the links to Melissa - she wants to try color work with her knitting and that's something i can't help her with - thank you!!!
ReplyDeleteI rather dislike colourwork because I always end up with the yarns all tangled up. My advice - work with no more than two colours at a time!
DeleteReally cute chapeau finish--I love those red stripes...nice work....hugs, Julierose
ReplyDeleteAt least I tested out that method of changing colours and got a hat out of it as well.
DeleteThe hat is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteIt was fun to make so I'm hoping my stash will yield enough compatible colours to make another one.
DeleteOh, I never thought of changing colours that way. I will be trying that out.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
I had never seen this either and I know it's something I will be doing in the future.
DeleteThe hat pattern is cute. The dragon eggs! Great link
ReplyDeleteMay
I love those dragon eggs - not that I happen to like dragons or anything.
DeleteThat's an interesting way of joining a new color. And it creates a nice looking pattern!
ReplyDeleteI know I'll be using that join method a lot. Don't know why I didn't know about it before.
