Not sure

I started working on a new landscape and I honestly don't know if this one is going to be the first to end up in the garbage.  I had a hare-brained idea that I would attempt to use small 'bits' (squares and rectangles) of fabrics to create the sky and the ground areas...layered and then stitched down with a hand running stitch.  The greens I used were way too in-your-face and so I have added two layers of netting to dull them down a bit.  I used one layer of the netting on top of the sky, primarily to hold down the raw edges of the fabrics a little more.  There's a way to go on the building itself before I can call that part done.  Now to make the decision of whether to call it quits at that point or perhaps add some trees.  Not at all sure about this one.  To salvage or not to salvage, that is the question.

- Have a peek at the gallery of THIS incredible artist, and if you want to read more about her fascinating technique you can find that HERE.

- If you are contemplating organizing your sewing space, perhaps you might find an idea or two HERE.  I know some of it discusses purchased organization tools, but I thought the other tips were worthwhile and you can always come up with tools of your own.  There's another really good article with great tips HERE.

- From the same source, have a scroll through her great tutorials found HERE.

- Gill at 'That British Woman' is undertaking a declutter challenge in February and you can read more about it HERE.

    1. Jury is still out on the landscape, but I will carry on and see if it comes right.

  2. MA, do not trash it! It's a great idea and a really good start. Soften the sky with some clouds done with sheer fabric. Soften the grass with some fancy fuzzy yarn and then some hand embroidery. Add some beads like with CQ. Don't let the challenge stop you. It'll look great!

    1. I haven't given up on it quite yet but it's taking a lot of pondering time to decide where to go with it. I'm going to finish the barn and sit and study it for awhile to see what else I can do.

  3. Maybe a picket fence would help?

  4. Oh no don't trash it!!:((((( Maybe some Kantha running stitches in the light blues will bring it together for your eyes? Just a thought...And some embroidery grasses over the greens? I am certainly not knowledgeable on landscape art, but maybe just let it sit a bit, too...
I love your saying for the day, Mary Anne;)) a good way to live and let live--some folks could really really use that!!

    1. There will definitely be some embroidered grasses I think. I used a running stitch to attach the fabric 'bits' but that's been more or less covered with the addition of the netting. Definitely requires some more pondering!

Sherryofcreateology: Hi MA. Yes to salvage your landscape. Once you ad your incredible hand stitching it will come together and be wonderful. Good links to begin a year. Love this quote. We never know what someone is going through or what they have done or been in their lifetime so it is always Kind to be Nice. I have Sunshine to spare so I can send you some. XO

  7. I am loving the squares and rectangles. I think adding a tree, some flowers or a wheat field will make this a lovely landscape.

    God bless.

    1. I thought the 'bits' of fabrics would be fun but I think I chose my colours poorly. The greens I used are too bright overall. A tree is in the back of my mind but will have to contemplate how I will accomplish it. I think I have a plan, but we'll see!

  8. Don't look now, but I've heard this with practically every landscape you've made, before they come out stunning!

    1. You're right - many times I think that a landscape isn't going to turn out and it always seems to come right in the end. This one, however, is worse than most! I have an idea though...so stay tuned for updates!

  9. The sky reminds me of happy puffy summer day clouds building up and turning into storm clouds. I think it's a keeper.

I like it and as I often say 'see the bigger picture'. I'm assuming more will be added to this and that will change it, everything else you add will alter it so keep going!

    1. Sometimes it's hard to see the bigger picture but I generally try to listen to what it's telling me and go with it. What it's telling me this time is going to prove to be a challenge!
