Reading Boud's latest post about giving her living room a summer look, I felt inspired to take a page out of her book and 'flip the quilt' that covers the pull-out couch in my sewing room. It went from this...
...to this....
I know, SUCH exciting happenings here at Chez Magpie! We're having an extreme heat wave right now and it's just too hot to bother doing much else.
- I really enjoyed scrolling through THESE. I happen to have an old Singer machine in one of these and would love to transform it, however the machine still works (or would, if I could muster the courage to give it a new belt).
- THESE are pretty to look through even if you don't want to use them.
- THIS would be a fun project and would make lovely gifts too.

Great cartoon and so appropriate...just in from putting out the garbage and so unpleasant out there! Don't know if it's my age but I am not doing well with this heat and humidity. That is a great quote...Hitler never once fired a gun I read. Thanks for the links as always something will catch my eye. Stay cool!
ReplyDeleteMaxine is always one of my favourites. Very glad we don't have to go out today and can stay inside with the fans going and as few clothes on as possible.
DeleteI used to go to a little cafe that had singer sewing machine tables. They were sturdy and never wobbled.
ReplyDeleteI often see them used as tables. I really don't want to convert mine because #2 son and DIL gave it to me and the machine works (or would, if I could figure out how to attach a new belt).
DeleteI neglected to thank you for the shoutout. So thank you.
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome! Thank you for the decor idea.
DeleteThe heat/humidity is brutal here too. I got the morning chores started at 5:30 and it was already very uncomfortable. I've ordered another fan which should arrive by noon today, so I will perhaps be a more pleasant person by 1 PM.
ReplyDeleteCurrent temp here is listed at 30C, but haven't checked what the humidex makes it. Very glad to stay indoors with the fans going. Might pick up another one just to keep more air circulating but I'm not about to go out today to get it.
Deletethe weekend was hot here, but it's gonna be cooler today - stay hydrated!!!
ReplyDelete...obnoxious-blue suits with too-long red ties and orange makeup smears on once-white shirts
Trying to!
DeleteLove the cartoon. Love ❤️ the new and cooling look 😎 on your sofa 🛋
ReplyDeleteI like Maxine! She always has such a great view on life.
DeleteWe have cooled off here now for a bit, the rain helped with that and we get some nice breezes. It did mean no clothes on the outside lines today though as rain was once again forecasted, but did not show up. Hope you manage to stay cool.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Trying our best to keep cool. We have a portable a/c unit in the living room, ceiling fans in the sewing and bedrooms, plus three portable fans that we move as needed.
DeleteLol, sounds like your place is as exciting as mine at the moment!! Mind you, it is a great idea to show off the back of a quilt, gives a lovely new look to the room! xx
ReplyDeleteTruthfully this side is supposed to be the right side but I usually keep the back 'up' so it doesn't show any possible dirt that might get on it. Yep - very exciting here, just trying to keep cool.
DeleteI have a Singer treadle that works, if I chose to sew with a treadle. Since I don't it functions as a side table next to the sewing machine, handy to put stuff on. The heat is miserable for millions. Back in 2003 when the first Gee's Bend exhibit was touring there was a book launch during the ALA conference -- in Toronto! Several of the quilters were there signing, so my copy is autographed.
ReplyDeleteMy treadle would work if I could figure out how to put the new belt on. I have the belt but don't have a clue what to do with it.
DeleteA reversible quilt is a great idea!
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't intended to be reversible and I tend to use the 'back' as the front, just for practicality. White doesn't always work well in a crafting space.
DeleteI had didn't readily catch on that that is the same quilt in the two pictures - until I read some comments. Nice that there are such different designs on each side. I like your summer sofa cover. :) And those singer sewing machine tables are amazing. I couldn't do that to one if I had an old machine like that, but wouldn't it be cool to come across those legs somewhere and turn them into one of those beautiful tables.
ReplyDeleteYes, it's the same quilt - thought it would be a nice summer look to have a lighter colour showing. I agree about the sewing table. I have one and I can't bring myself to revamp it, particularly when the machine will still work if I knew how to put the new belt on.
