There are days when (to quote my mother) I should have stood in bed for all I accomplished. I thought I would be thrifty and use up some leftover flannelette and make a couple extra pillowcases for us. Despite having made lots of them over the years, I screwed up and had to end up reverse stitching and adding pieces to bring them up to size. What should have taken me likely an hour to do ended up taking nearly four. The burrito method is so easy - provided you remember which way on to place the fabric. Argh.
Monday was a good day to stay home because we had freezing rain most of the morning. Luckily we didn't have plans to set foot outside the door so all good as far as we're concerned but there were a lot of people out there dealing with it. So far there's been three school bus cancellations in the space of less than two weeks so one wonders what the rest of the winter will bring.
I'm knitting another 1898 hat which, at this point, looks pretty much the same as the one I showed you previously, so I won't bother showing it to you again.

Today's quote is from Lisa Heckman..."In a society that has you counting money, pounds, calories, and steps, be a rebel and count your blessings"
Oh too bad about the pillow cases!! Some days it doesn't pay to get out of bed, I guess!! [or as someone said: "I shoulda stood in bed!" hahaha] I think we go through cycles where nothing goes right--ask me how I know this? Lately that's been my story...:(((
ReplyDeleteConcentrating on Christmas right now--one thing at a time for me these days;))) Hugs, Julierose
I was able to add an additional section to both of them so it worked out but still was annoying because I know better. Yes, one thing at a time is a good way to go!
DeleteOops on the pillowcase, but guess what? You aren't the first. Ask me how I know. I've sewn the border to the side instead across the top. We had to watch orientation of fabric prints while making the American Legion pieces. That's when it's good to work in a group.
ReplyDeleteWe've had some hit and miss snow today. Thinking I'll stay in tonight from church as they are calling for slick spots after dark.
When your buses cancel, does that mean folks have to find another way to get to school? Here, they simply call off school if buses can't manage the roads. Usually ice caused by wet snow.
That's exactly what I did! And then thought I'd cut the fabric wrong so I cut what I thought was the excess off. Oops.
DeleteWhen the school buses are cancelled here, they don't close the schools. Teachers and any students who can get there, either via walking or parental drop off, are expected to be there. Something about losing grant money if they don't keep open. I think it's wrong - if it's not safe for the buses, it's not safe for anybody else either.
MA: I hope all is well in your neck of the woods, it has been below zero here the last two days, I went thrifting with a friend when it was 2 below zero yesterday, but we did have some great soup at Panera, yum.
ReplyDeleteThank-you for the links, you find some great ones to share, love the bunny pin.
Merry Christmas

Snowing here at the moment and cold wind so would have been a good day to be able to stay indoors.
DeleteOh I love that quote - never heard it before! Pillowcases can be frustrating I know... freezing rain would be quite welcome here - we are about to head into a heatwave, ugh!!! xx
ReplyDeleteI think I'd far prefer a heat wave to freezing rain (as a matter of fact I know I would!).
DeleteThat is a perfect quote. :)
ReplyDeleteI agree!
