This is the time of year I want to hibernate and not set foot outside unless I absolutely have to (can you tell I'm not a fan of winter?) so what to do with myself now that the Christmas 'rush' is pretty much over. My ongoing quest to use up stash has led me to start this...
background is one of the blankets I made for donation to the local humane society
It's an 1898 hat (pattern is HERE) and will be destined for donation after I get a few more done. There are so many people in need this time of year so I'm sure they will be put to good use. Friends go to a church that offers free clothing to those who need it so they will go there for distribution.
- Perhaps one (or more) of THESE might be a great gift for someone. And perhaps a tea-drinker would like THIS.
- I haven't made THIS (yet!) but it caught my eye as a good possibility for Christmas giving.
- Perhaps one of THESE would be a perfect gift.
- THIS would make a nice gift too.
- Sometimes our four-legged friends need some love too as THIS will attest.
- I found THIS article to be quite inspiring.
Today the quote is from Ruth Carter Stapleton..."Christmas is most truly Christmas when we celebrate it by giving the light of love to those who need it most" (and a note from me - please consider, when choosing your gifts, remembering to give to your local food bank or a charity of your choice. Our communities are filled with people who need a helping hand).
Thank you so much for encouraging $$ donations to food banks. All year round. The need only grows.
ReplyDeleteYou are so right! Even people who are working can't make ends meet and are having to use the food banks. We did the 'reverse advent' that our food bank suggests and dropped that off last week. Every little bit helps.
DeleteI love that 1898 hat pattern - the way the ear pieces are designed to "hold" ears is just magical. I've made just the earwarmer part a couple of times, too - very nice for chores on a bitter day.
ReplyDeleteI like it too! It's not really difficult to knit and it's really warm so good for people who are out in the cold.
DeleteI'm right there with you on that couch and with an electric blanket no less. I live much further south than you, but since our Thanksgiving, we've been dealing with temps in the teens to upper 20s. I've stayed in when possible. Thank goodness for retirement. That supper cold to me. Even my electric garage door acted silly. When that heater runs constantly, all I see is dollar signs.
ReplyDeleteI don't have an electric blanket but I've thought about it. Had to go out twice today and I really wanted to stay inside where it was warm. Luckily our heating costs are covered in our rent.
DeleteSherry of createology: My Dear you certainly do keep your hands busy and productive. Such a great hat pattern. It will keep someone’s head and body nice and warm. You are very thoughtful and generous my friend. Blessings…
ReplyDeleteIt's a win/win situation - I reduce my stash somewhat and I help keep someone warm. Works for me!
DeleteI enjoy all the links you find, Mary Ann.
ReplyDeleteGlad you find something of interest in my travels around the internet!
