The decorating is done, the wrapping is all done but the finishing, so I decided that I simply needed to make some little decorations to add a little extra glimmer to our tree. A dig into my broken jewelry/bead/fancy button stash yielded some interesting pieces that were serving no other purpose....so...
Most of them measure only a couple inches long.
I justified the entire enterprise by saying that I was using up some stash and that the additional ornies would tuck easily in and around other ones so I can retain the 'container concept' for Christmas decorations.
- I just made one of THESE (and if I had more of the right sized pins I would have made more!). THESE are really cute too! And so are THESE.
- Sometimes it's the simple things that come in really handy as THIS will show.
- There are lots of links HERE to some great ideas for foodie gifts. HERE too. And THESE would be for someone with a sweet tooth.
- THIS is a simple stocking pattern/tutorial that might come in handy.
Today the quote is from Jillayne Wickware (who wrote this on her blog and it really resonated with me so thought I'd share it)..."Perfection can be the death of expressiveness"
Perfection is just not a good thing, despite how it's presented to us growing up.
ReplyDeleteExactly! I remember teachers in public school insisting that penmanship had to be perfect and heaven help you if you were left-handed. I think for a lot of us perfectionsm is something we impose on ourselves.
DeletePerfection. Nice to look at but not a useful goal, in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteHear, hear!
DeleteThat's a brilliant upcycle idea. Who doesn't like a little bling? I'm guessing there are some memories there too?
ReplyDeleteMost of it was fodder for when I did crazy quilting and most of it I think likely was 'donated' to me by different friends over the years.
DeleteSherry of createology: Your beaded ornaments are lovely and definitely will not take up much room in the Christmas packing and storing. I always love your links of so many interesting things and tutorials dear…thank you. Jillayne has it so right. There is NO perfection!!! I mailed your Christmas card yesterday not realizing about your postal strike. I hope you get it. Blessings Dear.
ReplyDeleteThank you Sherry - they were fun to make and I was happy to find a use for some stuff that had been languishing in my stash.
DeleteI'm holding onto your card until after the strike is over because it's not going anywhere. Saw on the news that the US is stopping accepting any mail destined for Canada (suspect it's backing up at the border). No matter what, it's a huge mess.
I think those ornaments are very pretty and they are small enough to "tuck in" among your other decorations.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
They add a little extra bling to the tree and yes, they're easy on the storage front too.
DeleteThose are very clever!
ReplyDeletehah, not so much clever as trying to use up some stash!
DeleteMJ: What a wonderful way to use up broken jewelry, these are beautiful, I bet they sparkle in the tree lights.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas

I don't remember where the jewelry came from in the first place but it's been languishing in my stash for years. I was happy to come up with a use for them. And yes, they look pretty in the lights.
DeleteVery nice little ornaments! It is the best use of old jewelry that I've seen. Thank you
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome! They just sort of evolved as I went along although I'm sure there's likely lots of tutorials and how to's out there for the same thing.
DeleteI've been thinking I should rehome my jewelry making supplies, but there you go and remind me why I keep hanging onto hundreds (probably thousands) of little beads and other sparkly things. ;^)
ReplyDeleteI've been holding onto these little treasures for far too long so I was happy to come up with a plan to use them. We won't go in to just how many beads I have in my stash!
DeleteLove the ornaments!
ReplyDeleteThanks! They were fun to make.
