I found a couple partial balls of Lion Brand Go For Faux as well as some balls of Lion Brand Hometown in my stash, all of which are a bulky weight. What to do with them was the question. An extensive search online led me to think I could use it up making hats for donation so here is what I've accomplished so far....
I think there's enough left to make two more hats. Using 8 mm needles so they work up really fast.
- THIS takes you to a PDF for a really cute quick project that would make a nice gift.
- THIS is most definitely an awwww-worthy thing!
- There are all kinds of ideas HERE for presenting a monetary gift.
- I'm always rather fascinated by THIS technique, but I really don't know how my machine would like it. Anybody tried it and can tell me how it went?
- If I did more decorating for Christmas, I would love to do THIS.
- I keep the cards we receive and use them as gift tags the following year, but I like THIS idea too.
Today the quote is from Donald E Westlake..."As we struggle with shopping lists and invitations, compounded by December's bad weather, it is good to be reminded that there are people in our lives who are worth this aggravation, and people to whom we are worth the same"
Good job making those hats and reducing your yarn stash too!! I love that gift tag idea--So neat thanks for your researching more great sites hugs, Julierose
ReplyDeleteThe hats are a win/win, for sure. I'm very glad to get some of this yarn out of my stash. Glad you enjoy the links!
DeleteMerry Christmas MA: What a sweet and kind idea that you are donating the hats, your kindness touches my heart.
ReplyDeleteThank-you for the sweet links.

The hats use really thick yarn so they work up in a couple of hours. Easy to do!
DeleteHooray for Using Up (and having enough to complete each of the hats). I've made that Cup of Cheer mug rug!
ReplyDeleteI dug a little deeper in the stash and found more yarn that I can combine to make a few more hats.
DeleteI like a quiet peaceful Christmas, and will have another this year. No struggling and shopping! But quiet pleasure. I wish that for everyone.
ReplyDeleteYes, I agree! Ours will be quiet too with some time spend on a video call with our family out west to watch the grandies open their gifts.
DeleteSuch lovely hats to donate. It really feels good to be able to use things up and clear things out of our stashes.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Yes, it certainly does feel good! I needed to find a use for this thicker yarn and hats are working out perfectly.
DeleteThose Will be great hats for donation. They are special with the fur cuffs.
ReplyDeleteThose hats with the fur cuffs will be so popular!
ReplyDeleteI was happy to find a use for the part-skeins I had of those faux furs, for sure. Hopefully someone will like them.
Deletethe wrap rope system worked very well for me - just keep the presser foot snug against the earlier round, and take your time. I've also done this by folding long strips lengthwise around the rope , stitching as close as you can, trimming the seam allowance as close as you can, and starting your coil with the pre-trimmed rope. We did this with batik fabric, very nice finish. This minimizes the fuzzies in the finished piece.
ReplyDeleteI love the look of the coiled baskets but must admit it scares me to think of what it could do to my machine. Thank you for responding and telling me that it works for you, along with your tips. Maybe I'll haul out my old machine and give it a try after Christmas. Merry Christmas!
DeleteI love those quilted mug mats! Everything about them.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad! Mug rugs/mats are so handy to have.
DeleteMore lovely hats, I love the fur ones!
ReplyDeleteUsed up a couple part balls of faux fur so win/win!
