After a number of hours, the landscape currently looks like this...
The barn has been pretty much completed and the sky area has been quilted. Now I'm working on adding detail to the treeline. Border fabrics have been chosen and those will be the next step before I attempt the foreground florals. A fence? Or not a fence? That is the question. Stay tuned!
As a further note on my landscapes, I was honoured to be asked to perhaps do a trunk show and/or a workshop for our local quilt guild at some future date. A workshop is perhaps doable, but I seriously can't wrap my head around any sort of trunk show that would hold the interest of nearly a hundred members. My pieces are too small for anyone beyond a few feet away to see and passing them around (although I'd be okay with that) just leads to a lot of chitter/chattering and anything I have to say would be lost. Some would say that would be a good thing. *If* the guild had enough tables I could lay them out and let people walk along and see them and I could just simply 'mill about' and answer questions. Hmmm....pondering....
- THIS is a fun article on painting fabrics suitable for stitching.
- And HERE is another fun technique you might like to play with.
- THIS is a pretty hat pattern that would look good on anybody depending on the colours you use.
- Maybe you know someone who needs one of THESE (and just because they made me smile)...or maybe just make a few and leave them for someone else to find.
- Have a peek at the creations of THIS amazing artist!
Here's your quote of the day.."Return your shopping cart. Pick up a piece of trash. Hold the door open for the person behind you. Let someone in your lane. Smile at a stranger. Small acts have a ripple effect. That's how we save the world.
I wonder if you could do a wall display? That would avoid handling and you could do a kind of gallery walk discussing the artworks. You don't want people handling your work, I'd think. Nice they asked you.
ReplyDeleteI don't think the venue where the guild holds their meetings would look kindly upon things getting mounted on their walls. I probably have about 20 to display (no doubt there will be several more by that time) so I thought maybe laying them on tables so the 'gallery walk' would still work only they'd be doing the walking. I don't mind them handling the projects because I know they're respectful, being quilters themselves. I would make sure to only have them on display AFTER they'd had their coffee break and no danger of anything getting spilled.
DeleteI really love how this barn came out--just beautiful with all its detail work...very nice!!:))) Great that they asked you to come
ReplyDeleteto do either one of those! That is really an honor to share all your lovely works with them. Hugs, Julierose
There's still a number of hours to go into the landscape but it's getting there. And yes, it's an honour to be asked, but on the other hand I also know that it's really difficult for them to locate speakers so they just might be desparate!
DeleteCongratulations! That sounds like a good thing to do. I hope you find a workable display. There are foldable wall screen things the could hang on with clips and s-hooks.
ReplyDeleteGood links. The buttons are a nice project I'd like to try.
Good quote.
It might just be imagination, but I have encountered more polite folks in the last month than I think I have all year.
Wall screens would be great but I'm not about to invest in them just for this - besides, I have nowhere to store such things.
DeleteSounds like a nice opportunity to share your work. Hope you can work something out. Maybe you could have a girl scout group come and be "models" that hold the quilts or walk amongst the group. I know the scouts are always looking for service hours. I've made some of those Yorkshire buttons - they're fun once you get going. A belated Happy Easter to you!
ReplyDeleteI can easily get models to walk around with the landscapes - there's always guild members that are willing to help. With covid restrictions (depending on what they are by the time I'm supposed to be doing this) it's difficult to get too close to people. Will have to wait and see.
DeleteI haven't tried making Yorkshire buttons but they're on my list to attempt one day.
I would love to come to hear you talk about your landscape quilt and see them in person!
ReplyDeleteAwww - how nice!
DeleteRemember.... there's a gal at the bottom of the world who would consider it a privilege to model your amazing works of art...just saying. =) As for this new barn....just WOW!!
ReplyDeleteAnd I would consider it a privilege if you did!
DeleteHi Maryanne oh those trees look awesome can’t wait to see what you do next. I think laying your projects on tables and letting people mill around and ask questions sounds good, good luck with it all ,you will do a wonderful trunk show, hope you have a lovely day 🌹🤍🌹
ReplyDeleteIF I do the trunk show it won't be until January. The guild has to try to fill the slots quite a bit ahead of time so they know what they're doing.
DeleteThis is a beautiful landscape quilt, what an honor for you, I hope you are able to do a trunk show and share photos with us.
ReplyDeleteThank-you for the interesting links.
Catherine
I doubt there will be photos to share at the time because I'll be too busy. However...if you want a private trunk show - just click on the 'Landscapes For Sale' section in my sidebar and you can see them all!
DeleteHow exciting being asked to talk to your guild. Perhaps a gallery of the landscapes displayed could be the answer so that members could view them hanging both before and after the talk? I like this new one very much. Hugs Christine xx
ReplyDeleteAlas there's no way to hang things at the place where they hold the meetings. Tables are the answer - I think.
DeleteSherry of createology: Such an honor to be asked to do a trunk show. I just know you will figure out the best way to display and discuss your landscapes. They are truly wonderful dear. I had to smile at the Worry Worms because my Grandma used to crochet these and give them away. Everything old is new again.
ReplyDeleteI think Worry Worms are such a great idea - so nice to have tucked in your pocket.
DeleteAnd yes, it's an honour to be asked so we'll see where it ends up going.
I hope you come up with an arrangement that suits everyone for the trunk show. I would LOVE to see your creations up close and personal. :) The landscape is looking lovely.
ReplyDeleteI think we'll figure something out and if we don't, nothing lost. The closest I can come to you seeing my landscapes up close is maybe to click on the 'Landscapes For Sale' category in my sidebar and then click to embiggen them...that way you'll get to see what I'll be taking for the trunk show if it happens.
DeleteI think your table display idea is a very good one! And I'd suggest sandwiching the talk between two periods of table-display times. If whoever is running the event suggests that people could submit questions to her/him during the first browse, you might have some unexpected talking points - always helpful! And after the talk, people would have a second chance to view your work with "informed" eyes. I hope you do this - I wish I could come!
ReplyDeleteThat's a good idea - I'll run that by the organizer(s). The entire thing will hinge on whether their guild library will be willing to give up their table space.
DeleteAnd, wouldn't it be fun if you could be there!!
