Alas and alack

It seems there are no photos to share with you.  I know, the sheer audacity of it all.  However, in my defense, I've been (yawn) appliquing all that hexie 'thing' you saw previously onto the background.  The only break in the action has been the occasional blood letting (which I'm sure you would prefer to avoid the graphic evidence thereof).  Maybe, just maybe, later this afternoon I might progress on to adding the floral border.  I know...it's just a huge barrel of excitement here at Chez Magpie.

We're getting our curb-side grocery order this morning and my wonderment at what they were planning to do to adhere to the current ban on plastic bags has been solved.  We will have to provide 'x-number' of green bins which we will have to 'trade in' for an equal amount of bins filled with groceries.  Sort of a one-in one-out sort of program.  We happen to already have 5 bins that we were using for various types of storage so have had to change things around so we can use them.  Will likely have to buy a couple more as time goes on.

And, simply because the excitement just never ends - we're taking our income tax in this morning too.  I know I could do it myself but our tax preparer is good at figuring out how we can income split so it works for the most benefit and I simply don't want to do all that math.  What would take me a couple of days she can do in mere minutes.

  1. Nice quotation today. Women particularly tend to grow up being expected to be busy and occupied alk the time. It's good to be reminded it ain't necessarily so.

    1. You're so right! It's something I certainly should work on because I can't seem to just do nothing - I have to have something in my hands all the time.

  2. We are totally bagless here too. I've got a couple of bags that fold up quiet nicely that I can fit in my coat pocket and purse and we keep cloth bags in the car for the grocery store. Good luck with your taxes. Still waiting for ours to be finished.

    1. We do the curbside grocery pick up thing and really the only place we might need bags is the drug store. There's always some in the car but now I have to re-train my brain to take them into the store. I was pretty much good with it before covid hit and now, after so long that they didn't want you to bring your own bags, I'm having to change my mindset once again.

  3. that last link, her work is stunning. Hubby does our taxes, hoping he might have time to file them either this weekend or next.

    1. The stress level if I tried to do our taxes would be through the roof so Resident Chef is quite happy if we pay someone to do them - that way he doesn't have to listen to me!

  4. That is a wonderful quote.
No plastic bags, so far it hasn't stopped the produce and meat section from using them. There a canvas basket I hope to try, when I remember to buy one. Or else I'll rope up a shelf basket to use.

    1. Yes, produce and meat are an issue - not sure what they will end up doing about those. I think they have to come up with some sort of bag/wrap that is biodegradable and safe for the environment. Now, if only we could convince manufactures to stop using that horrible hard plastic that requires a stick of dynamite to get into.

    2. In produce, the misting spray, dip fingertips into the water droplets. Friction will help open those silky plastic bags without a struggle. Any moisture on produce will help.

  5. Bagless here in Saskatchewan as well. It's good thing most of us prepared for this eventuality.

We pay someone else to do our taxes as well. Still waiting for a few things to come in the mail.

    God bless.

    1. Resident Chef was tonight bemoaning the fact that now we'll have to actually buy some sort of bag to hold the bathroom garbage (been grocery bags up until now). Will have to ponder how we'll deal with that one.

  6. Blood letting sounds pretty exciting. Frightening, but exciting.

    1. Oh yes, there's the blood-letting and the wrapping yourself up in the entire thing and then tripping over it (and yourself) when you try to get up. Good times!!

Sherry of createology: Hello Sweet MA. I have a hand stitched quilt my Grandma had made for me by some Mormon ladies. I have never tried to get out the stains from their fingers blood letting. It is part of the hand crafted story of my blue quilt. So many Uber talented artists it makes me wonder why I make anything…except it fills my soul and never my pocketbook.

    1. Think of your quilt as being filled with DNA!
You are so right about making things to fill your soul and that the pocketbook remains empty.

  9. Bagless here as well, so I always make sure I have my reusable bags in the car. I don't know what would happen if we did curbside pickup.

Still waiting for a few forms here and then we can take in our taxes as well.

    God bless.

    1. I would imagine all curbside pickups will be going to the green bin system eventually, if they haven't already. It makes good sense. Now it remains to be seen what they'll do about things like meat and pre-bagged lettuce.

  10. We pick up our groceries curbside and have to have bags/bins ready for when they bring it out. We would have delivery but we are just enough outside the town to not fit in their radius. I think they rush about at the last minute to include things like ice cream, etc. I do find it very convenient for all the essentials, esp. the heavy stuff...if only someone could come home with me to put it all away.

    1. They used to have a delivery service here too but it fell by the wayside several years ago. Curbside pickup works ok for us although I, like you, wish somebody would come and put it all away for me too.

  11. I've always been pushed by the saying, "Don't put off tomorrow what you can do today." Your statements at the end made me focus more on the word "Can" in my phrase. Much less stressful.
Interesting to find out how Canada is handling the plastic bag dilemma.

    1. I've always heard that phrase too and it can end up just adding more stress to your life, for sure.
