Ouch, ow, yeow....

My thumbs are complaining mightily but I am refusing to listen.  I am determined to get this lap-sized quilt finished no matter what.  When I do it will mean there are no more large projects hanging over my head and I can get back to doing landscapes (yay!).  I went back to find a picture of it on my blog and I found it in a post from January 2021.  Here it is...

I'm quilting it by hand using heart shapes of various sizes.  As of this moment I think it's  about 3/4's done and that's after several defeated attempts to finish it.  In case you can't tell from the picture it combines 'regular' quilt blocks with vintage linens.  It's another of those projects that seemed like a good idea at the time and, although it was fun to stitch together, I have no earthly idea what I'm going to do with it.  It no doubt will be moved from the 'Feel Guilty Time Out Pile' to the 'Dust Collector Pile'.

- THIS looks like it might be a fun sampler quiltalong (and NO, I will not be taking part - I've had quite enough of quilts for a long time!!!)

- Perhaps you might like to save your ORT's and make one of THESE.

- THIS is a great little project that works well for recycling too.

- THIS would be handy for so many different things.

- THIS is an interesting article concerning storage of fabric scraps and also some ideas of things to make with them.

Today's quote is by Joshua Becker.."Look around your home.  That closet stuffed full, that drawer that doesn't close, the garage you can't park in because of the boxes - those are all opportunities to give and help others"

  1. This is lovely! I know what you mean though -- I don't have purpose or destination for quiltmaking anymore.

    1. If this wasn't so 'feminine' I know our daughters in law would love it but neither one likes this sort of thing. I'll put it away in hopes that our little granddaughter might turn into a girlie-girl and love it.

  2. Beautiful quilt. Put it up for sale or away for a wedding or graduation gift. Give your hands a spa soak at home.
The sorting fabric remnants, feels weird to think of never digging through it all.A good idea though.

    1. If I were a better quilter I could think about putting it up for sale but I'm afraid my hand quilting isn't even enough (or small enough!) to be something anyone would want to pay money for. I'll just be happy to get it done and then I can find a spot to put it.
My fabrics are sort of sorted by colours but that doesn't mean I don't dump 'em out onto the floor every time I'm doing a project so I can fondle it all.

Sherry of createology: Good Morning Dear. Your vintage linens quilt is lovely. By hand quilting it with assorted sized hearts you are truly making this an heirloom. My sewing days have all fallen by the wayside. I seem absorbed in my learning watercolors. Great links and quote today. Blessings…

    1. My hand quilting skills are quite dismal but at least I'll be able to say I did it.

  4. Ow--be careful not to overstrain those thumbs ;000
--I resorted to machine quilting my tablerunner (OYG) because my thumbs just really hurt a lot...I finally have no more big quilts left either--it's a good feeling...but kinda sad too. Time marches on tho', doesn't it? ;))

Your quilt is looking great--I have given a lot of my quilts to family and friends--kept a few for bedding and display.
Now I will be making smaller fabric pieces ...hugs, julierose

    1. I'll be quite content to make landscapes and little things for my grandies. Hopefully I'll be able to continue to crochet and knit for the long haul but who knows.

  5. Wow! Hand quilting! That's a huge endeavor. While it's collecting dust, you think, it will give you some pride every time you take a glimpse. I'm guessing. Getting back to your landscaping after quilting is like me getting back to everything after finishing taxes. What a relief.

    1. It's not an overly large project so the hand quilting shouldn't have taken me this long. It will be nice to check it off my to-do list.

  6. What a gorgeous quilt. Harvey keeps asking me every time I make a very simple quilt if I am giving it away.... I tell him you can never have too many blankets or quilts during a Canadian prairie winter.

    God bless.

This quilt is a work of art and will make whichever pile more beautiful. Mary @Hilltop Post

  8. That quote...I have two boxes (so far) marked EBAY OR DONATE. I used to put things on eBay every now and then, and never had a problem until a few years ago when I had a nightmare buyer who made the experience so thoroughly unpleasant it put me off selling ever since. I think I'd better get over that, because some of the things in that box would pay for a few bales of hay.

    1. There's always people who live to make things miserable for everyone else. I've never tried selling on Ebay or any of the other platforms because the shipping costs are ridiculous.

  10. I do love that quilt with the vintage linens. I recently bought a bag full at an estate sale but haven't done anything with them except sort them. We've been trying to go through things to clean out what our kids don't want - which is almost everything. But I like to find organizations that are actually going to use the items of clothing and not just as rags. I've tried many ways to organize my scraps of paper (cardstock) - I don't think I'll ever be able to use it all and have come to the realization that it would be better off donating it to an art teacher or scout troop. Too much to worry about leaving behind.

    1. I know what you mean. I've been trying to use up and get rid of a lot of my 'stuff' too because I know our kids won't want any of it. I'm at the point now where I sometimes do have to buy something in order to make a project but at least I'm being mindful of it.

    1. It's one I will be more than glad to get finished. It, and the big quilt, are my only UFO's and at this point I don't plan on making any more large quilts. I might (key word, might!) still make our three youngest grandies a t-shirt quilt but those aren't so hard to deal with.
