MAGPIE'S MUMBLINGS

Some of you will likely have noticed that I've removed a picture from my blog header.  I had no intention of that but discovered when I attempted to update to another picture it ended up showing up HUGE.  For the time being I'm going without a picture in hopes that I can figure out the 'why' of it all.  I suspect it has something to do with the new computer and some sort of setting that needs to change.  The great mystery is what setting and where is it lurking? (and yes, I have clicked on the 'size to fit' button and it doesn't change a thing).

Nothing much to show you today beyond a little more progress on the cross stitch ornament...

We have a small lending library (of sorts) in our building and often people will leave things they no longer need for others to benefit from.  I noticed someone had left a number of knitting patterns/books and I found these two booklets.  There are some beautiful patterns even though they are older publications.

- There are some really pretty flowers HERE made from recycled denim.

- Have a peek at the beautiful creations by THIS artist.

- THIS is a different take on a knitted cowl.

- THIS would be really nice to have on hand in the warm weather.

Today's quote..."You are not born a winner; you are not born a loser.  You are born a chooser"

  1. I found way back when I set up my header (which would be the old and better blogger) blogger told me my picture was too big. I cant remember size needed. I change size using free software Photoscape. Maybe email your picture to me and I can return it in different sizes?

    1. There's something off about the sizing on all my photos - I haven't looked for a solution as yet, but I'll keep your kind offer in mind! Thank you.

  2. Loving your stitchery. How nice to have people share their unneeded items with the building tenants. Sometimes the older instruction books are best. Wonderful links. We are the choosers might be a little difficult to understand for many of us. Life is difficult and I am still learning.

    1. I'm having fun with the current stitchery. Not sure how I'll feel when I'm working on the 4th one!!

  3. Computers have mysterious doings behind the scenes, don't they? Click, un-click, who knows? Not me, for sure...Good luck with your search
Cute knitting books--I like the older knitting book patterns--especially for children's wear. Oh and mittens, hats etc.
And speaking of mittens, we are in for a big storm starting tonight--something called a "bombagenisis" now that just doesn't sound good!!:000

    1. Never heard of a bombagenisis - will have to look that one up. Be safe!!
My computer has started telling me that I really should update to Windows 11 and I'm resisting because I just know it's going to be a mess up all the way.

  4. The ornament is really coming along.

I have one of those two books. I inherited it from my Mom, plus one that is larger and kind of falling apart. Both have beautiful patterns that I use a great deal. Older patterns are the best.

    God bless.

    1. Some of the older patterns are the nicest. I'm not sure my knitting skills are quite up to some of the designs in these but there are a couple I think I'll try.

    1. Actually, I'm not minding the look without a photo in the header so it's no hardship to leave it that way, at least for awhile.

  6. That same issue suddenly came up in the header picture of my Art, The beautiful metaphor blog. Nothing could shift or fix it. I tried everything blogger suggested. No success. So I was stuck with it. I only succeeded in getting it stuck halfway across the screen. That blog is now folded into Field and Fen, and I'm not touching the format. Life's too short to spend on fixing Blogger capers.

    1. I agree - I could spend hours putzing around trying to figure it out and probably end up messing up a whole lot of things, so for now I'm leaving it alone. I'll try again later and see if it will work but for now it's fine the way it is.

  7. I don't know about the header, but you can resize the size of the photos by clicking on them in the post and you'll get a drop down with sizes. Mine usually come up as small and I change them to large. I find anything bigger sometimes overruns the column on the side. Great pick up on the knitting books. It's so nice to find something you can use out of the blue. I am definitely going to make some of those denim flower - the pom pom ones I think. And I wish that I had knitting skills to make that wrap - it's gorgeous and would be perfect in air conditioning.

    1. Yes, I can change my picture sizes in regular blog posts with no problem, but for some reason the header size doesn't want to be changed, despite my clicking on the 'size to fit option' which has always worked before. Oh well, I guess I don't need a header picture.

  8. I think that is so cool that you have a lending library in your building. I enjoy when I find an old crochet book or magazine. I've made several old patterns, and feel like I'm making something unique - even if it's just old. :)

    1. Yes, the lending library (small as it is) is certainly a good thing for everyone here. It gets a lot of use for sure.

Thank you so much for leaving comments! I appreciate you taking the time out of your busy life to talk to me. It's wonderful to know that someone is actually reading my mumblings and even more fun if I can connect with you and visit your blog.
