Zip It!

Yes, zipping it is a good idea here at Chez Magpie at the moment.  We have a huge influx of fruit flies and unless one wants an extra helping of protein, one is wise to keep one's mouth closed (in other words, zip it!).  We have little  plastic wrap covered bowls filled with apple cider vinegar/sugar and the little buggers are drowning by the dozens.

And....I have finished the last pair of socks (at least for this year)...

My usual sock recipe that seems to suit everyone.

There's no update on the phone issue because I
haven't gotten to the store yet.  Hopefully I'll
have something to tell you on Wednesday!

Today's quote is from Shira Tamir..."Anyone who thinks fallen leaves are dead has never watched them dancing on a windy day"

  1. It's been awhile since I've sat down at computer to read any blog posts etc. My husband finally had major heart surgery on Oct 8. It's been a roller coaster summer of tests, more tests, and three visits to the emergency. He's home and doing well considering everything that's been going on. Good luck with the fruit flies. I use a similar method, using red wine and oil. I also now wash every piece of fruit that comes into the house - it works. Thanks for the links. Nice pair of socks too.

    1. The fly population is dwindling dramatically - can't count the numbers that have gone to their happy home in bug heaven after taking a dip in the vinegar/sugar solution. Annoying little critters!
I am sending get well wishes in your direction for your DH - may he continue to improve each day and soon be feeling great again.

    1. That wee bonnet is on my wanna-do list for our new grandbaby, for sure.

  3. I had to use that little vinegar trick in the school library one summer when we were using it while our office was being renovated. It does work, but those little buggers are pretty sneaky and like to hang out in the sink drains also so you have to be diligent.

    1. They also like to hang around houseplants we've found. We have little bowls of the vinegar solution in several different places and I think we're getting most of them. Hopefully there won't be another hatching!

  4. We get the occasional little fruit fly in the house and I spend hours trying to smack it out of existence.

Ohh, interesting way to fuse two pieces of batting together. Must try that next time.

    God bless.

    1. The apple cider vinegar with a bit of sugar in a small bowl works really well....just cover it with plastic wrap and poke a few small holes in the top. Better than trying to smack them!!

  5. Oh how irritating! I hope the fruit flies lessen in number soon. Sounds like you have the situation under control with the apple cider vinegar! Christine xx

    1. The little bug-grrrrs are dissipating slowly. Just hope they don't decide to have a hatching of more!

  6. Just found two knitted sock "recipe" books :-) I have about 1/2" left to go on my first pair of socks - which look like a first pair of socks (haha) but I'm learning. Yours are beautiful!

    1. Hmmm - dunno about my socks being beautiful but I've hit upon a pattern that everyone in the family is happy with and I've managed to change the sizing to suit all the foot sizes. I don't think I'm going to mess with the design any more! Have fun with your socks.
