New little stitcheries....and yet another debacle......

I came across a fun little cookie-themed cross stitch design so I decided I would make each of the 'grandies' a Christmas ornament.  Resident Chef makes cookies and sometimes there's a care package that heads out in the mail to our grandsons so Grandpa is pretty cool in their eyes.  Each ornament will be slightly different but the basic outline is the same.  Right now I'm awaiting a shipment of tiny beads to add here and there for additional sparkle.  When we send the ornaments of course there will be a box of cookies to go along with them.

These are done using perforated paper which is a first attempt for me.  I think I'll be doing more.

Just to show you that this blog is never predictable (Hah!!), the subject of mold came up on another blog and it reminded me that I have stumbled across a good product that seems to help with that issue, at least in a bathroom.  We've been battling mold in ours for several years and I've tried numerous different things - bleach, vinegar, and a baking soda concoction I read about on the internet.  Nothing worked for any length of time.  Finally I read about a product called 'Lysol Bathroom Bleach Cleaner' (purple label) and thought I'd give it a try.  Best results yet!

Oh the adventures that await us upon awakening here at Chez Magpie boggle even the mind of your intrepid reporter.  Yesterday morning Resident Chef undertook to clean out the fridge which should (note the key word I used there....should) be relatively uneventful.  Suddenly there was a monumental crash and the ominous sounds of something breaking, followed rapidly by some rather colourful language.  I hit the doorway running and immediately saw a flow of ooze.  My first thought was 'NOT THE CARPET' because we just had it cleaned.  More by luck that anything else the goo remained on the kitchen floor.  But HOW in heaven's name can one little bottle of kefir manage to spread itself across half the kitchen floor??  Yeeeewwwww.

So....the least decrepit of us (read that, moi) was down on the floor once again trying to mop up.  Of course it managed to ooze it's way beneath the fridge itself along with the cabinet on the other side.

What caused all this (beyond the fridge cleaning)? One of the shelves in the door of the fridge decided that it should come unattached launching the contents downwards.  To Resident Chef's credit he managed to catch two of the bottles of kefir but not being in possession of three hands was a definite drawback.  Maybe I should send him to juggling school?

Today's quote is from Leo Tolstoy...."If you see that some aspect of your society is bad, and you want to improve it, there is only one way to do so: you have to improve people.  And in order to improve people, you begin with only ONE thing - you can become better yourself"

  1. Never a dull moment chez M.
Little package went out to you yesterday. There was an earlier envelope too, which might not have arrived yet.

    Good luck today.

    1. Yes, there's rarely a dull moment here and if there is we start to wonder what's wrong.
Post office personage is being stalked and will let you know when the treasures arrive!
(and thank you for your good wishes)

  2. Fridge cleaning always feels like an adventure into the unknown. I am glad nobody was hurt.

    1. We do clean our fridge fairly regularly so there's rarely any scientific experiments found lurking in the back. And yes, at least when the bottle broke nobody was hurt.

  3. Yippes, I am glad that Resident Chef managed to catch those two other bottles.

Love the ornaments and I have checked out that pocket shawl, very pretty and the pattern looks very easy.

    God bless.

    1. How I wish I'd been lurking in the corner to see him trying to grab those bottles out of midair!
I like the pocket shawl pattern too, but don't have a use for one, at least not at the moment.

  4. Thank goodness the kefir did not reach the carpet. Loove the Halloween cross-stitch and the qUirky birds.

    1. Yes, if the spill had landed on the carpet I would have been just a tad annoyed, especially after just having had them cleaned less than two months ago.

    1. I'm waiting for a delivery of tiny beads so I can finish them. I have tons of beads but none are small enough, wouldn't you know.

  6. Sorry that a bottle got broken but I am glad that only one fell and that the contents had the sense to stay on the kitchen floor! Christine xx

    1. the bottle didn't actually break - but the lid did. And yes, I'm very grateful that the goo stayed on the kitchen floor and not on the newly cleaned carpet!

  8. Oh no! What a mess. I felt your relief when the liquid didn't make it to the carpet. Always a riot with you two lately. My life seems so boring in comparison. ;^)

  9. I am pretty sure you are at your limit of three disasters for at least another 20 years. I love every stitchery you create. Such a cute idea to make cookie ornaments to accompany Resident Chef’s home baked cookies. If only each person would become a better version of themselves. Happy Falling into Autumn...

    1. Oh, debacles are a regular occurrence here! Although I do admit that they often come in 3's.
