Finish # 2 and wonder of wonders!

I've finished working on the second advent calendar - more additions of beading and embellishments to make it a little more fun.....

I'm sure some of you had to have noticed the earth move yesterday.  Surely you did?  We have been waiting for three years (yes THREE!) to have our balcony repainted.  Four work orders (that have been ignored) later and they finally came.  Good thing we were sitting down!

Above is the 'before' picture - there's precious little of the brown paint left because it's all peeled off.

To the right is the 'after' - it needs a second coat and they've missed a few spots...but.....we know this is a good as it gets so there's no sense in hoping for more.  At least it looks a thousand times better!

Today's quote:  "Don't believe everything you think"

    1. A second coat would make it even better but we're taking what we got and feeling grateful for it!

  2. That Advent piece is just so charming...lovely work on both of these...
Balcony is much improved--it's amazing to me how people cannot seem to do
a really complete and good job of work these days...what happened to pride in your work??
    [Silly me, huh?]

    1. Yes, getting a good job is something that's often sadly lacking these days. Oh well, we're just happy that it looks much better than it did!

  3. gosh this advent calendar is even prettier than the first......all the embellishments do make a difference. Glad you finally got the balcony painted. Living in El Paso, Texas, right across the border from Mexico one of the things people here contend with is the "manana attitude"....(we will do it tomorrow)......apparently that happens everywhere...... Love the quote

    1. Tomorrow in this case took three years. The buildings have been sold so they're bustling around catching up on all sorts of things they've let slide. Today they filled the gigantic potholes in our parking lots - another job that's been neglected for years.

  4. MA you are a Wizard-ess at making Advent calendars. This is a beauty. Happy to hear the painting has been done- pity about the poor quality of paintwork. I hope you get a new Superintendant along with the new Owners. Thanks for Sharon's link. I embroidered the first 3 of her earlier 'cleaned up' Herrschner patterns and love them. Good quote!

    1. Unfortunately it appears the 'new' owners are most likely the same owners - just under a different name. Not the first time they've done that so it's not unexpected. At least our paint job looks a lot better (provided you don't look too closely...lol).

  5. Nice improvement! Can you get paint from them and do the second coat yourself?

    1. We've done so many improvements and repairs ourselves and finally have decided that enough is enough. It's a rental and they should be responsible for their own debacles. When it was painted before it was done on a day it was snowing and raining AND they didn't use proper metal paint so we feel it's their problem to fix. I *could* have painted it myself 3 years ago but it became a matter of principle.

  6. I love that advent calendar, full of ideas.
And I can't believe they finally painted the balcony. I wonder if the sale was contingent on a lot of items like repairs and maintenance catch-up. Good! I hope the rent doesn't go up now that they've made it a high end desirable all mod. con. residence.

    1. Oh yes, the sale has something to do with it we're sure. Funny thing - they spent most of the day today filling the horrible potholes in our road and parking lots....they've only been there for at least two years with nothing done. They try to 'encourage' tenants to move to another 'updated' unit with all the wonderful so-called conveniences - and charge over $500/month more for the privilege. We harbor absolutely no illusions about these people but there's nowhere else in town to move to that's any cheaper than what we have here.

    1. Thanks Judy - the advents were fun to do. And it's nice to look out the living room window at the balcony and not see all that gross peeling paint.

    1. Who knows - it's not a priority for the powers that be I guess. On top of that we're not 'pushy' enough to rock the boat and they probably know it.

  11. Wow, the balcony paint looks so much better! Only three years, eh? Maybe you ought to submit now for the next time, LOL! I love your Advent calendar. How fun to have grands to make them for. And those RBG ideas are awesome. I’m going to have to go find my old lace collars and pull them out to wear!!

    1. You might have your finger on what might be the next 'thing' (referring to the lace collars). As for submitting work orders three years in advance, might be a plan! Hopefully the 'new' owners will be more on the ball than the current ones.

    1. The balcony certainly does look a whole lot better - just too bad there's not enough nice weather left to actually sit out and enjoy it.

    1. Yep - it only took three years. We tried not to celebrate TOO much. It could use a second coat but we're not going to rock that boat and are remembering to be grateful for what we got.
