Resident Chef and I spent the better part of two days working on what you see here...
He spent most of Friday prepping all the vegetables and then I took over on Saturday and processed them all. The end result was 12 jars of Red Cabbage and Beet Relish; 12 jars of Zucchini Relish, and 11 jars of Cranberry Apple Mustard. Phew! And then I wondered why my back was sore!
Today's quote..."The 'pop' of a canning jar lid is a joyful noise!"
Great minds think alike. I made blueberry jam, pineapple jam, dilly beans, and when i get more sugar some strawberry rhubarb jam. My hot pepper relish may be on the list soon too. And yes popping is a wonderful sound
ReplyDeleteAre you finding it hard to get jars and lids? It's certainly not easy this year around here - suspect it's because people are home more now and have the time to do some canning. I'd love to make some pepper relish too but that won't be happening unless I can find more jars. Thank you for the lovely comment!!
DeleteI'm finally catching up on my vacation blog reading. I got so far behind! I love the scrappy blocks that you are making. They would look good sashed in a big quilt but I know that big quilts aren't your thing! Nice harvest there!
ReplyDeleteNo worries about catching up here Vicki. Nothing exciting has happened while you've been gone. You're right - big quilts are definitely not my thing!
DeleteWell, you certainly added quite a bit to your pantry shelf. We could not find canning jars here either.

Wish we could find more jars because I would still like to make some red pepper relish but will have to see if I can find some first.
DeleteThat's a satisfying sight, all the jars filled and looking so good. Are some of them to be gifts? It's lovely to get home canned pickles and preserves.
ReplyDeleteYes, some will be used for gifts...at least that's the plan. Of course it all depends on if we even get to see anybody when the time comes!
DeleteThis insane quilter thanks you ma dear for the HST link. Oh, the sight of all those deliciously filled jars is making me lick my lips. LOVE relishes and mustards. Yours look delicious!
ReplyDeleteGlad the HST link is of value! It's hard to resist the urge to start eating the relishes but we know they're much tastier once the flavours have blended for awhile. We did test the mustard though and it's good!
DeleteI haven't canned in years, but I always love seeing home canned jars of food. So pretty.
ReplyDeleteWe try to do a little bit every year but not what we used to when we had the house and a nice cold cellar for storage. Now we mainly do it to give as gifts.
DeleteEverything looks so yummy and colourful. Good links too.
ReplyDeleteI think the colours are part of the fun of canning. The eating isn't half bad either!
DeleteLooks like you're all set for the Winter months with all those lovely jars of produce... or do you use them as gifts? Looks delicious! Christine xx
ReplyDeleteProbably half will be given away at Christmas time provided we get to see anybody that is. If we don't, I guess we'll be eating it all.
ReplyDeleteLots of work there. It will make nice gifts and will be enjoyable for you and your family, as well. I had seen the 8 at a time HST tutorial but haven't tried it yet. I have 2 more HST big blocks to make for my Long Time Gone quilt...might try it or might just stick to the 4 at a time method...not sure if I need that many of the same..........
ReplyDeleteI've never had occasion to make HST's so don't know how valuable it is to do 8 at a time, but I think there's also the directions on the same site to do 4 at a time.
DeleteHi Maryanne wow what an amazing g job the pair of you did,my back gets sore too if I am standing in the kitchen for to long, what lovely homemade goodies to have in your pantry well done my friend, stay safe xx
ReplyDeleteI figured it was best to get it all done in one day but I think somebody forgot to notify my back! Ah well, it's done and that's what counts.
