Not much

There hasn't been much happening here at Chez Magpie that's worth sharing.  I finished the backing on the latest landscape and put the label on (boring);  I tidied up my sewing studio (yawn);  and I cut out and started making a bunch of elastic masks for my family (tedious).  The only highlight over the past couple of days was a flying trip to the  little local fabric shop this morning to pick up some 'kid' fabric to make some masks for our grandsons.  It's sounding like there's a distinct possibility that the kids will have to wear masks if they go back to school in September so a grandma needs to be prepared.

It's a horrible dark picture but here's the fodder I got
for masks....

It's been quite hot here the past few days so I have the curtains drawn to attempt to keep the heat at bay as much as possible so that explains the darkness of the photo.

Today, instead of a quote, how about a little cartoon....

  1. Saved the wallet and bookmark links as both are great stocking stuffers. Yes it is very hot today. Wanted to go to Fabricland but there was a lineup outside. Considering that the average woman MIGHT take at least a half hour min if she definitely knew what she wanted to buy....I was looking at maybe a three hour wait. No way. Not today.

On another topic.....are you putting iron on interfacing in your masks? I saw a few places where they suggested that but I made one with and it seemed a bit thick.

    1. I thought those little patterns would be fun stocking stuffers too. And a three hour wait for any store in this heat would be more than I could handle for sure.
No - no interfacing or liners in my masks. The only way I'd consider using it is if I were going to be in a crowd of people and needed additional protection.

  2. That cartoon is too true..

If the kids have to wear masks, may as well be interesting designs.

    1. Yes, making the masks fun might (key word - might!) entice them to wear them.

  3. That cartoon is too funny and, unfortunatley, too true! Love the backyard scavenger hunt....I actually sent my Grandson's one when the COVID lockdown closed down their school and had them send me photos by text on all they found. I'm using a box of N95 masks that I got to use in my garage when I was painting..........what a great idea I had at the time....never thought they would come in so handy!

    1. The cartoon made me laugh so thought it was worth sharing. And the backyard scavenger hunt would be fun for kids I think so I've sent the link to my daughters-in-love so they might use it for our grandsons. As for masks I'm hopeful to be able to track down a box of 'proper' ones to have on hand in the fall because I suspect we're going to need them.

  6. Your mask fabric is interesting. I made one for my granddaughter a couple weeks ago. She wanted a green one. I've used batik cottons for the ones I've made.

    1. There wasn't a huge selection of fabrics for kids at the small shop I went so I was happy to find what I did. Hopefully the boys will like them and will be willing to wear them.

  7. Through one of the website you referred, I ran around a bit on "Across the Blvd" in a link party and found a crocheted number 2 pencil scarf at Sew Crafty Crochet. I just might try to make one. A definite challenge for me, but I bet not for you. A great gift for a teacher.
I had high hopes we were going back to school, but with the numbers rising again I'm not sure they can because too many vunerables work at the schools.

    1. Glad you found something of interest in one of the links. I think I've seen that scarf design somewhere and thought it was cute. As for school, who knows what will be happening in the fall. If we get a second wave as they're predicting it could mean home schooling will need to continue. At the very least I'm wondering if children and teachers will be required to wear masks at all times. A difficult concept to imprint on kids.

  8. I am enjoying your posts as I am catching up reading them. Your landscape of the church is divine. I love all fabrics and have a weakness for buying them. Your cartoon today is well...very funny but all too true! Be well my dear.

    1. Thanks Sherry. Nice to know someone else loves fabrics too. I think it's probably a good thing that I only have limited space (and limited funds!) to store them or I'd have a whole lot more!

  9. I think you got a nice selection of fabrics for kids' masks! And I really liked that little corner bookmark made of fabric. I don't know whether to laugh or sigh at that cartoon... Okay, okay... I'm laughing.

    1. It's a very small shop so the selection can be limited but those will certainly work. Laughter, btw, is a good thing!

Thank you so much for leaving comments! I appreciate you taking the time out of your busy life to talk to me. It's wonderful to know that someone is actually reading my mumblings and even more fun if I can connect with you and visit your blog.
