A little bit of stash reduction

Over the past couple of weeks my knitting needles have been busy creating these two cowls made from mohair I had in my stash for far too long.  All that knitting though - and I only decreased the stash by one single solitary ball!!!!

The patterns are pretty generic  - the beige one is simply 5 rows knit and 5 rows purl, rinse and repeat.  The ivory version was a little more complicated and was a pattern from one of my stitch books.  Unfortunately the design is pretty much lost in the fuzziness of the yarn so if I do more I'll probably stick to the beige version.

And another in the little series of quotes I've been sharing..."As I get older I realize that getting lucky means walking into a room and remembering why I'm there"

  1. Is the cowl knitted on straights or circulars?

    1. I knit as much as I can using circulars - even when I'm doing straight knitting. In this case I did use circulars so they're seamless, but there's no reason they couldn't be done using straights too.

    2. I asked because of the purl row situation. Come to think of it, you could purl by knitting on the inside for the purl rows, and knitting on the outside for the knit rows. On circulars, I mean.

  2. I think the stash grows more with each stash busting project. But the cowls are beautiful!

    1. Yep - I swear it grows overnight! Same way clothes tend to shrink in our closest. Complete mystery!

    1. Thanks Sheryl! Not quite sure what I'm going to do with them, but most likely they'll get tucked in as an extra with a Christmas gift.

  4. The cowls look cozy warm. And, at the same time, light as a feather. Okay... that button wreath was really striking. I think it was the purple against the green. Very cute!

    1. I liked that button wreath too, and probably because of the colours. I'd love to make one but then the issue arises of where to store it. Heaven knows I have enough buttons but at least they're contained in jars at the moment.

  5. Nice knitting. The Santa stocking link, that is a nice stocking pattern.

    1. I liked that stocking when I saw it, but at present I have no need to make it. Perhaps next year when we'll have a new wee grandson to spoil.

  6. Hi MA,
It looks like you have been busy creating all sorts of things. I really enjoy checking out the links and wonder how you find such good things...every post!!! I've been busy with some home renovation and not as much making as I would like. It's nearly complete so time in the studio is going to happen! I love the cowls!

    1. Glad you enjoy the links - they're fun to search out and share. As for being busy, I've never been a person that likes to sit around doing nothing. I often say I need some time 'off' and will set out to sit on my duff and actually do nothing but veg out. Lasts about ten minutes and I start getting antsy!

  7. Nice knitting projects. Question: 5 rows knit and 5 rows purl, rinse and repeat. Am I missing something? RINSE and repeat.

    1. LOL - rinse and repeat is just an expression. Maybe it's a localized thing?

    2. Thanks for the explanation. Never heard that expression before.

    1. Don't know about the warmth factor because they're so light, but at least they'll look the part!

  9. Lovely cowls dear. I shall try the beige one s it sounds simple for me. My knitting skills are so lacking. Love the button wreath and the striking colors. Maybe just make small ones to use as napkin rings? I relate to these “quotes”.

    1. The beige pattern is definitely easy. I don't knit anything that's not really straight forward because my attention span for complicated is zilch.
