Yep, the fact that I waited all day to make my blog post so I could show you a picture of what I was working on is a moot point now, unless I want to un-wrap a just-wrapped gift that currently holds today's project!! Argh. Just more proof that I'm losin' it!
Today's quote (and I promise it's not a repeat of the last one!)..."Life is kind of like a party. You invite a lot of people, some leave early, some stay all night, some laugh with you, some laugh at you, and some show up late. But in the end, after the fun, there are a few who stay to help you clean up the mess. And most of the time they aren't even the ones who made the mess. These people are your real friends. They are the ones who matter most"
Oh, Becki’s post on de-stuffing (LOL) is super. Thanks for sharing. I’ve been working, lightly but consistently, to de clutter. I think that 2020 will be the year to really dig deeper.
ReplyDeleteI loved her post and thought it was too good not to share. I think a lot of us could learn something from her words and I know she has inspired me to really buckle down and get rid of a bunch of excess after Christmas.
DeleteI like very much the thoughts from Becki. One thing I find helpful, particularly when I'm sorting in the studio, is to ask: has this item served its purpose here? It might be brand new, unused, but I now realize unlikely to be used. It might be good materials from an artform I've moved on from. It might be a new adventure for another artist.
ReplyDeleteI've passed on loads of items this way, and enabled people to experience art materials they might never have heard of! It can be such fun to do this.
And I do note her reminder not to make our discards into someone else's burden!
Thanks for this link, very good stuff.
I like your thought about passing things along so they can be a new adventure for another artist, but only if they're useful items and, as you said, don't become someone else's burden.
DeleteI'm sure your work is beautiful, wrapped or not.
ReplyDeleteThe penguin ornament is adorable!
It was only a cross-stitched bookmark, but at least it was something I could have shown people!
DeleteI loved Becky's post - I've been 'de-cluttering' for a few years. Some things were easy to get rid of, others, have taken a bit longer but I'm finding that as long as I keep moving forward, progress is being made lol. I laughed at your opening paragraph . . . been there, done that haha!! Well we know that the finished product was a masterpiece so we'll go with that!
ReplyDeleteI don't think de-cluttering ever ends because for some unknown reason more stuff keeps creeping in when we're not looking. I swear it multiplies overnight!
DeleteBecki has made lots of very good progress and valid points. I spent three years de-cluttering and find myself gathering stuff once again...WHY??? Oh the missing brain...I have suffered from this phenomenon most of my life...hahaha. Today’s quote is so true. Blessings Dear.
ReplyDeleteI don't understand our obsessive need for more stuff and it seems it multiplies when we're not looking. After Christmas (or maybe even before) I will tackle my space once again - using Becki's words as a good motivational tool.
DeleteOf everything I have lost...I miss my mind the most!!!
ReplyDeleteThat is a great theme for a Christmas tree isn't it?
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, our 'minds' are finite and sometimes out to lunch or maybe on an extended tropical vacation.
A bit of good humor goes a long way.
I really wish I had room for a tree like that - it would be such fun to create and would certainly showcase our passion wouldn't it. Oh, I like the idea of my mind being on a tropical vacation!
DeleteGreat post Maryanne hope you have a lovely day xx
ReplyDeleteThanks Sheryl - hope you do too!
DeleteOh my goodness! Thank you for the shout-out, Mary Anne. And those who commented above are so nice. I love Cathy's calling it de-stuffing! I wish I'd thought of that! I'm laughing with you over wrapping the thing you meant to take a picture of for today's post. Yep. I can totally relate. Okay... going now to check out your links. Thanks again, friend!
ReplyDeleteYou're so welcome Becki - your post was simply too good NOT to share. I know it struck a chord with me and I'm pretty sure it has with a lot of other people as well. I am chomping at the bit to get some 'de-stuffing' done here because you have inspired me!
DeleteIt's always fun and inspiring to watch someone else's progress with decluttering! I went back and read Becki's whole month from the beginning, and watched the video which advises teaming up with a pal to help keep the momentum. Or accountability. Or something. Anyway, Mary Anne, if you want to team up, I'll do it with you. I'm not going to post pictures on instagram, but I'll do it on my blog. Whadayya say? :)
DeleteIt would be nice to have accountability to someone if we do this! So....I'm game, if you are. Provided we wait until after Christmas because I simply don't have time to do much more than think about it until then. No instagram here either - but blogging is good.
DeleteThanks so much for sharing my Sewing Themed Christmas Tree post!
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about losing it. Just this morning, I was looking for something else and found the chocolate initials and candies I'd bought for stocking stuffers back in October. (Those chocolate initials go fast and you have to get them early before they start running out of letters.) I'd forgotten all about them. Good thing I found them before Christmas Eve or I would have been scrambling to fill stockings.
And I love that quote.
You're welcome! I love that tree and just wish I had room to have one of my own.
DeleteAnd lucky you found the chocolate - I know if it were me I'd probably find them in March and then be forced to eat them myself!
I had to laugh about your wrapping story! Here's one where the joke was on someone else: a friend was complaining(!) about having to wrap all her Christmas gifts, so I offered to do it for her. She had several shopping bags full of gifts. It took a while, but I was happy to do it. Later she told me she spent hours looking for the candle she had bought for her table centerpiece before it occurred to her that it had been in one of the bags.
ReplyDeleteLOL! That's something I would do! Right now I'm facing having to unwrap two gifts and have a do-over because I forgot to put part of the gift inside.
DeleteSome VERY good links. Love the "List Mind" post. It's a wonderful time of the year?
ReplyDeleteGlad you liked the links Joy. Sometimes I do manage to find a few gems!
DeleteInteresting tree for a sewing room. I haven't bothered with a tree in my studio. Christmas overload with all the craft markets. My husband even offered to do one for me. I almost fell over (grin). thanks for blogging!
ReplyDeleteI loved that tree, but there's absolutely nowhere to squeeze it into my sewing room. Hmmm....maybe from the ceiling....????
